TubeDude, where can I find some patterns for tying jigs?
Ice jigs and jigs for spring trout fishing.
Thanks,

[cool][#0000ff]There are lots of websites with pictures of various kinds of jigs and instructions for making them. BFT has a site for JIG AND LURE MAKING and there are threads with different aspects of jig making.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I will attach some pics below, but I will also offer the invitation to visit my "tackletorium". I know you are an accomplished fly tier, and that making the jigs is much easier when you know your way around a vice and a bobbin. But, I may be able to introduce you to some new materials and techniques that I use in jig making.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I make and use mostly jigs that are designed to be used with some kind of bait...my BDS (bait delivery system). I refer to a lot of them as "baitbugs"...with short tails and lots of color and flash. Many include glow.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I also make small "ice flies"...fly patterns wrapped on a jig head. And of course the deadly marabou jigs work well almost anywhere. Often marabou works better than plastic in cold water conditions.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Shoot me a PM and I will give directions for a "hookup".[/#0000ff]

Congrats on your craft. They look better and more well made than those that are sold in stores.

[#0000ff]Us married guys don't get many. (compliments)[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Not all that stuff works all the time...but some of it works at least some of the time.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But, as my wife says, making it keeps me off the streets and out of trouble...mostly.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As you may have observed in some of the pics, I use a lot of the "synthetic" body materials and fibers. They are available in a wide range of textures, sizes and colors to help fab almost anything my feeble old mind can conceive. It is really interesting to see the change in appearance some of those materials have when put in the water. Some better and some worse...at least from a non-fish perspective. Who knows what the fish want and what they see in that stuff. But, if they vote for it often enough, that's good enough for me.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I think we can agree, also, that it is not just the lures involved. There is a lot that goes into finding the fish and making the right presentation. I have long believed that a good fisherman can catch fish on the "WRONG" lures while a poor fisherman often can't catch fish on the "RIGHT" lure. Of course, when you factor in good old fisherman's luck, who knows where it goes?[/#0000ff]
