leaving here to fish Deer Creek around the island area at about 11 30 or so, headin up from SLC. I will be alone on this trip so a bit of company or at least somone I could hang near would be good for safety. I have a red jeep cherokee that will be parked across the road from the island at DC, feel free to say hello. Oh yeah, my name is Chris by the way.

We just got back from Deer Creek a few minutes ago. We were fishing on the north side of the island. I was there with my dad and we had a fantastic day. We caught a bunch of rainbows and the weather was great. We were in 8 feet of water using tube minnows tipped with meal worms. I could tell I was a bit rusty on the set since my dad had three on the ice before I landed one. I just kept missing them. We caught some nice sized ones but didn't have a camera to take pictures. We also had some fun teaching some first time ice fisherman how to catch them. Everyone around us kept wanting to know what we were doing since most of the guys around us weren't catching much.

I did horrible!!!! [mad]
I arrived about noon thirty or so. had to get the wife and kids off to a baby shower first. drilled a hole, but i made the mistake of wandering out to 15 to 20 feet of water first...i missed 3 light, light ticks that may have been a fish fart floating by my line. I was using mealies and an assortment of jigs that have produced before on the ice, hell i even tried to use my favorite cast master silver spoon as an attractor to no avail. after 3 hours of gettting teased and drilling two other holes, i gave in and went back to where i could find a wife willing to deliver me a cold, open budweiser. then i made macaroni and ground beef dinner for everyone, because you see i had no fresh trout, or perch, or carp!!!! yes I would have taken a rubber mouth buglefish over NOTHING..LOL. that is the first time DC has skunked me in 5 years, man it stings. maybe ill hit the river next weekend and make up for it with those feisty browns. oh well.
oh I should mention, since i was alone i opted to NOT carry out the fish finder, rubber box (aka sled), rope, seat, anything pretty much that could have made me comfy in my 3 hours of misery. i took my tackle box, 2 coke cans, my rod, my folding seat and a garbage bag to put the seat on to water proof where i knew my buttox would sink into the 6 inches of snow on top of the 13 inches of ice i hand augered through. that was fun, first time i used the auger...THANKS KENT OF N.SL.!!! but anyway i figured the first ice outing for me, better be the roughest...
the sun was out, it was VERY WARM on the ice, no "W" at all, just a slight southern breeze to carry the sound of other people catching fish to my ears. I think at least 3 more weeks of ICE at DC, unless we start to see temps in the 60's in SLC, there will be plenty of hard deck i say thru the last bit of march.
not much to it, but thats my report. im going to eat the mealies i have left over. the fish obviously dont want em.
