Fish Lake Fanatic
#1
So I have been fishing the gorge for nearly 20 years now. I have spent thousands of dollars just trying to catch that monster Laker. I have caught a few in the 20 pound range in that time but never anything bigger. As of today I have fished Fish lake 1 day and spent about 150 bucks and finally broke the thirty pound mark. Well at least I think, This fish had a 23 inch girth and was 37 inches long. He took about 30 minutes to reel in with the 3 foot ice rod and 6 pound test line. In my estimation this thing had to be at least 30 years old with how slow fish lake grows them. And the coolest part is he is going to see 31. Since I didn't have a scale Im not exactly sure how much he weighed. I was hoping somebody with more expertise could gestimate how much he weighs and post a reply. so with all that said I think I might have to change my name to fishlake fanatic......

Nice fish Jeff, I bet it made your day. I have a web site that figures out the weight for you on that fish. I'm not sure how close these things are but here it is, http://www.mohroutdoors.com/#Fishing/fishweights.htm
Thanks for posting your report, it was good to meet you a while back at Lost dog.

[#808000]Very nice fish especially from Fish Lake. According to the measurements that you have given it would put that fish around the low to mid 20lb range probably around 23-25lb's from what I see in your picture.[/#808000]

[#0000ff]Here is a LINK TO CALCULATOR that I have found to be reasonably accurate. Using the length and girth you provided it calculates your fish at just a hair over 30 pounds.[/#0000ff]

[#808000]Since you are definatly into Mack fishing here is a site that calculates weights for only Lake Trout for future references. I've used this calculator for the last couple of years and it is dead on for Lake Trout. [/#808000]Click Here

Thanks Kent, it's funny because it worked this morning when I posted it, the weight came out the same as Wyobraz link. I just checked the link I have on my computer for the site and it doesn't work now either[crazy]. Maybe so many people looked at it that it crashed the site[Wink].

I think wyobraz came pretty close. I have a similar specimen to yours. It also came from fishlake. It measured 36 inches and has a similar build. It weighed 22. I hope this helps. gshorthair

How was the ice on Fish Lake. Will it hold up for another week or two. Looking for a trip next week.
