Striper fishing
#1
When is the best time of year to fish for stripers? I hear about anch. alot. Is that the best way to fish them, tipped jig?

Has anyone fished for walleye down in Powell? I hear it is becoming a real fishery. Thanks

[cool][#0000ff]You can catch stripers all year round at Powell, but areas and fishing methods change a lot. You need to spend some time going through the past archives of BFT posts on Powell and check out all of the info available on WAYNESWORDS.COM[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Powell is a huge lake, and the fishing changes all the time, especially with big changes in water levels...like this year.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As you will learn, you can fish stripers with bait or lures...with or without tipping them with anchovies or other bait. If you find them you can usually catch a few.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The walleyes are more than just "becoming" a fishery on Powell. In the early 80s...before the major explosion of stripers...DWR estimated that walleyes comprised the largest biomass in the lake. They have been there for many years and are relatively easy to catch if you learn a bit about them. However, just like most other waters, many of the walleyes caught are taken while fishing for other species. In short, if you fish a good lure in a fishy area, you never know what you will catch. Kinda like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Watch the boards over the next couple of months. There will be a lot of us heading south and posting reports. Most reports will contain the info you are looking for...best places, lures, baits, presentations, etc. Feel free to ask for any info not provided or PM the posters for additional input.[/#0000ff]
