Snake River, Palisades
#1
Hello,
I am just wondering some general information on the South Fork.
When is the earliest I could float the South Fork of the snake, below PaliSades including the canyon section? Also will the shore be open for camping at that time?

At least answer this part, would it be safe to say I can plan a float trip for mid to late April?

Thank you in advance for your replies,

We generally start cranking up the flows about that time. Every year can be slightly different, but take a look at this link and it will show you last years flows and the average. http://www.usbr.gov/pn-bin/graphwy.pl?pali_q

Keep and eye on the flows to determine your best time to float. I use the USGS water web site to keep tabs. www.usgs.gov. Then look for the realtime streamflow tables. You can float the river just about any time, but may have to wade over a few gravel bars along the way. The fishing usually stays really good till they crank up the flows to start feeding the farmers. Check with the B.L.M. on the camping thing. I know the canyon stretch is a big game corridor, and they do not allow vehicle travel for part of the year. Good luck, and hopefully better fishing![cool]

Canyon stretch requires a permit and a porta potty for camping.
Not a plastic bag or a bucket but a certified porta potty.
