I have fished the South Platte, but not in Eleven Mile Canyon. I have fished the Spinney Mile and above Spinney. Great fishery with some large fish, to say the least. The canyon is beautiful and an awesome experience regardless of fish count (which fishing trip isn't though[Wink]). Let me know if you come out to Colorado and would like some company down there as I'm sure I'll be down that way often this Spring, Summer and Fall![Smile]

[green][cool]Hi there hartz - and thanks for your offer to be a fishing partner. Actually a good friend from Denver has extended me an open invitation to visit. Since it is about a 1000 mile trip I wouldn't be driving that distance just to say hello. Likewise he is a fisherman but don't remember if he is into swatting. BTW thanks for fishing info. Any particular flies that would work well in May? [Image: fish-on.gif][/green]

I always bring a bunch of BWOs and caddis just about where-ever/whenever I go down that way although you would be missing the main BWO hatch. Just like Utah, we have a Mother's Day Caddis hatch. I think that is primarily on the Arkansas but I'd imagine there will be Caddis on the South Platte too! Also, small, plain gray scuds work well down there too.

Here's a link to another site (sorry to the moderators if it is a 'Rival' website... heh I guess you're a moderator Dryrod!) that has excellent information.
FYI - You post set off a light in my head and now instead of skiing on Saturday, I'm gonna go fish the South Platte! Thanks for the idea! I'll give you all a report on Monday!
[#005000]Sorry hartz but I had to delete that link as it lead to another fishing forum.[Wink][/#005000]

[#0000bf]Yes, the water temperature stays fairly constant. It is a tailwater from a bottom release dam.[/#0000bf]

[black]Sanitize your wading, fishing, equipment before fishing anywhere else. Wash your wading dog.

New Zealand mudsnails abound there.

I hear the fish are not as plentiful or as big as they used to be just a couple, three years ago.

"Sanitize your wading, fishing, equipment before fishing anywhere else." [green]Now that type of info is more important to me rather than the type of fly to use. Thanks for the heads up.[Image: fish-on.gif][/green]

This is the second location for NZMS to be found in Colorado. Anywhere you fish on the 100+ mile south platte you will now see signs warning about New Zealand Mudsnails.

correct. BWO's a few midges... and damn it i cant recall the name of the other one i always carried when i went there ( sorry i LOVE flyfishing and have been doing it from years but still have alot to learn), but they were green, size 18, and had a peacock hackle, looked like a bugger but it was a dry. and last but not least a few dozen prince nymphs. last time i was there was august of last year. started at the dam and worked my way down to the spillway. caught 4 decent rainbows, one nice brown (nicest i have ever hooked) that might have gone for 6+ lbs. the brown came off less then 4 inches from my net. oh well. watch out when trompin through the brush. i did come across one snake but i just turned and went the other way. this might sound wierd but when i fish it on the 15th of april, the day after i arrive from deutschland, im parking my truck in the parking lot by the entrance station (5 bucks to get in i recall) and riding my bike up to the damn. once you get over the second bridge its hard to find parking in the canyon, and i dont want anyone to hit my truck when its parked on the side of the road. if it wasent for the rough and tumbly area in the middle of the canyon, i would stick my toon on the river and float down.

Well, various midge emergers and midge larvae worked this past weekend on the South Platte. I think some BWOs were hatching just as I left at about 4:30pm. Didn't want to leave, but had obligations. Also, I was in the Cheeseman Reservoir tailwaters, not 11-mile's. And yes, make sure to wash waders after fishing there. Signs abound warning you of the NZMS. I'll posting a report on the CO board soon.
