Hi all! I have been reading the posts on here for some time and decided to join in the fun. I spend most of my time fly fishing SE Idaho but the last couple of years I have tried steelhead fishing and some ice fishing. Since this is my first post I don't know if it will work but I will try and post a picture of a steelhead my son caught on saturday. This was his first time fishing for steelhead so he was quite excited to land one the first time out. He hooked and lost a couple of others.

Yeah that's a pretty nice one! I too had a son who caught his first one this spring. It is a good time to celebrate. Steelhead fishing is not easy, but a day or two on the Salmon River sure beats working.

That is a nice male!! I too was up there chasing fish this weekend and done fairly well. Where was you fishing at? In town? There were a lot of fish caught in town this weekend. I was downstream and seen quite a few caught and even caught a few on my own. Still a lot of run coming up the river this year. Congrats on the successful trip. Any time that you can catch even one up there is a good trip.

We were fishing at the Lemhi hole. We started at 11:00 PM and my son had 3 hooked by 1:30 AM. We quit at 3:30 and slept in the car for a few hours. I started fishing again at 6:00 AM and finally landed mine at around 10:00. Scott only fished 4 and a half hours and hooked 3. I fished 9 and a half hours and only hooked one. Attached is a picture of the one I landed.

Welcome to the board. I obviously need to go steelhead fishing with you, seeing how we are literally neighbors[cool]. Those are some great fish and pics. Hopefully we will hear from you often.

Tell me a little about steelhead fishing at night. I've seen guys do it with headlamps and lanterns. I even tried it for a few hours my last outing with out any success. How is the best way?

I am only a beginner at steelhead fishing so I can only pass on what others have told me. We fish at night with headlamps and a lantern. I think the most important thing is to have glow in the dark corkies and scent. The thing I like about night fishing is you can get on the best holes without a crowd of people. The diSadvantages are not being able to see your line and also the cold temps.

Windriver I was going to call and see if you wanted to go with us but it looked like you were gone for the weekend.
