[#808000]Everyone please tell all your wolf lovin buds about this campaign! Tell them to especially stay away from the Gorge and anything south of Jackson Hole and west of Pinedale, because it is considered wolf killin country! [/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]This campaign could be a great thing, wolf lovers could avoid our state and have a clear consience, while we could be free of some Enviros. Looks like a win, win to me, who's with me![/#808000]

I'm with you Braz, less people at the Gorge this summer means better fishing for me. After reading some of the comments on that article it just goes to show how many uneducated people there are here in Utah, at least in the ways of the outdoors. I grew up in the southern part of Colorado around people that farmed and ranched. Those that are Angry with Wyoming about the wolves are in most cases city folks that know nothing of what farmers and ranchers have to deal with on a daily bases. If those same pro wolf folks had to live on a ranch or farm for any length of time I think their ideas would change but you know that won't happen. Like TD said, those that have their minds made up won't change by any amount of discussion, walking a mile in others shoes is the only way some people will ever understand[unsure].

[#808000]Curt, I disagree that those who have there minds made up won't change their minds through discussion. Some won't that is true, but when it comes to this particular topic most opinions on both sides are based off of emotion rather than fact, and the SLC Trib article plays to that emotion.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]You never hear the facts such as while wolves under USFWS control they killed 724 wolves since the reintroduction in 1995. Last year alone they killed 87 wolves alone in the Greater Yellowstone Area with 63 of those being in Wyoming, and the overall population of the Greater Yellowstone Area still increased by an average of 20%. The 63 wolves killed in Wyoming in 2007 was 30% higher than the amount killed in 2006. Historicaly the amount of wolves killed in Wyoming by the USFWS has increased about 30% every year (the only exception is 2004 to 2005 where it only increase 10%). With this said it is estimated that in 2008 the USFWS would have killed approximately 82 wolves in Wyoming.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]You also only here the that 90% of the state of Wyoming is considered to be shoot on sight Predator area. While this is true you never hear that while 90% of the state is this way, less than 10% of the states population of wolves inhabit this area, and that the this area is not considered to be suitable wolf habitat. The USFWS estimates that only 30-35 wolves live in this area. As of the end of this last week 11 wolves have been Legally killed in Wyoming, 7 of those were killed in the Predator area of the state while 4 were killed in the Trophy management areas after ranchers were issued depredation permits to kill wolves that were killing livestock.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]Another fact that was noticed in 2007 was that wolf kills of elk in the GYA consisted of 58% bulls, 17% cows, and 24% calves. [/#808000]

Those last facts are very interesting, why do you think the wolves would kill a higher percentage of bulls over cows and calves? Talking about trying to convince others, you should go the link you posted above and add these facts on the comment section. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find all this info.

[#808000]I have already tried to post these facts on the SLC Trib, but they have been deleted. I guess the facts don't fit into the agenda that is being pushed by the Trib. So that is why I am posting this here on BFT Utah.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]As for the elk percentages, the biologists that are involved in the wolf recovery are not certain why bull kills are at a higher percentage. Most kills that were studied found that the bulls appeared to be healthy but most kills also appeared to have happened during the winter and early spring, so who really knows.[/#808000]
[#808000][/#808000]
[#808000]All the info you ever wanted to read about the wolf recovery can be found at the USFWS website or the Wyoming Game and Fish website.[/#808000]

I've been looking around in the site I listed above but there is so much other info there that all I've come up with so far is the info on the what and where the wolves have killed in the last week.
