Throw net fun at the Jordan River-pics
#1
I usually sleep during the day, but today I went outside and it was yeehaw!

I was sooooo happy to see the bright day and I decided to go online and get my fishing licenses at the DWR website. Kmart is right next door to me but they have slow customer service, besides online they let you use your printed license for 30 days, very convenient.

I decided to go to 106 south in West Jordan at the Jordan River to find a deeper hole to catch small carp and hopefully June Suckers, just kidding, Utah Suckers.[laugh]

Anyways, I finally went out today and got good at throwing my thrownet! A nice sunny day makes a difference, last winter I tried like mad to throw that darn net, but to no avail. Sheesh!

But out of the blue my enthusiasm and self confidence soared as I tried to get that 5 foot diameter net to spread, boy I did it pretty right, most of the time. I do make bad cast.

So I get to 106 south, nothing! I went under the bridge, there were no deep holes. I tried further south but no luck there.

So I thought to go to 90th south in Sandy and check out if there was any deep holes.

So what do you know I founded a road theat went to the Jordan River. It was like 97000 pr 98000 south, one or the other.

I drove down to the river to see what was there. I got there and I walked under the bridge over the river. Dang! Nothing! I even stupidly threw my throw net about 7 feet off the bank and loosing the whole thing, including the rope! I can be a space cadet sometimes. I had to get one foot wet and grab a long stick and snag my net!

OK so here we go, I decided to walk south down the Jordan River Parkway. Finally I found a deep spot, but it was a steep drop off and the only way to throw a net was to balance on a cut log. Luckily the log was big enough to stand on, and luckily the river was deep along the bank.

So I threw my net the first time, nothing, the second a nice 24" carp.

I threw it out again, nothing, then again, this time a Utah Sucker! First time I had ever seen one that big(pic included) I've only seen tiny 2" in American Fork creek near the American Fork boat harbor.

Thats all I got in just a short time, but it sure was alot of fun! I had a blast!

I cut up the carp and the Utah Sucker for bait and put them in my freezer.

Another thing that I wanted to add was this; I can't believe how "hard-bottomed" the Jordan River is! I always thought my whole life that it was a sludgy muddy bottom river! Its not, its rather rocker with hardly any mud. Wow huh? You would think a river that empties Utah Lake would be a muddy bottomed river.

It take some time to get back and develop our fishing skills early in the season. Looks like you have some bait now, so future trips should be successful.
