You should have two different rigs for each water. But if you must use only one, a 7ft med-heavy rod with your choice of reel.[ shimano is a good one] With 15lb line should keep you out of trouble.

Try the Okuma Halogen 400 series for fresh and salt.
If you need the bait clicker option I would go with the Okuma San Juan instead.
I bet I know which green line you are working with. The bright green line by some of the manufactures is kind of week at times.
Clear or smoke tend to work better for general conditions.
