This is my first post on here. I've been reading them forever, and I'm glad to finally contribute. I hit the lake this afternoon, launched from Lindon and fished up towards AF. Found a small school of white bass and picked up a few on a white road runner jig. Then just trolled a bit and caught a small LMB. I saw the carp we're feeding off the surface now that the wind wasn't howling and it was a little warmer out. I brought my bow as well and I shot two carp before my line broke and I lost my arrow. Didn't bring a spare like I normally do. Oh well, fun while it lasted. On my way back I fished of the north side of the Lindon Harbor and hooked into a huge Walleye with a yellow curly tail. Fought it for some time and got it tangled in my anchor line. Needless to say I was trying to net it and it got off. Pretty frustrating. Came back later that night and fished from the shore with my wife, and caught a couple muds and a nice channel. All in all a good day. Next time I'll make sure I've got batteries in the camera. I'm excited to be a part of this and look forward to chatting with yall.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. Sounds like you have both good and bad "fisherman's luck". [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Too bad about the big walleye. Maybe the big spawned out mamas are starting to feed now.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Did you get any water temps?[/#0000ff]

No, I didn't get the temp. Wish I could have. The carp were jumpin all over the place, and I havn't seen them be that active for a few weeks. Hopefully these next few days will warm things up. Question for you, I've never fished the boil ups by Geneva. Are they still active now that it's pretty much shut down? Seems like they still get fished alot. Thanks for any info.

I was down there in my tube from 9:30am to noon. Didn't get a bite and saw only one carp jump. The water temp was 49.6F.

[cool][#0000ff]There is a long line of buoys that mark the pipe running out underwater. And, there is still water that empties along the outer end of that pipe. But, the water is cooler spring water now, and not the warm (polluted) stuff that used to attract all the fish this time of year.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Still, there have been some recent years in which it saw good fishing for small male walleyes into May, and usually a few white bass there. Lots of cats in the surrounding area[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I fished it once earlier this spring and didn't see any fish holding over the bubbleup. Only caught one cat and no whites or walleyes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, every day is a new day there, and it is worth putting on your stop list if you are in the area.[/#0000ff]

Thanks for the heads up. Seems like it's had it's day in the sun, although from what you said the water that was attracting them wasn't all that healthy anyways. Thanks again.

Tried fishing the west side today. Windy Windy Windy, the water temp was only 48 degrees. O well first trip, just wanted to make sure I hadn't forgot how to use my pontoon.

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, I'm one of those who remember back in the 70s and early 80s when Geneva was goin' full bore. The outflow from their operation was a warm coffee colored stuff that smelled bad but did attract the fish. Nothing like flowing water and warmer temps to bring in the fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The downside was that fish all over the lake had a funky smell when you filleted them and an even worse taste when you tried to eat them...especially the fish caught nearest to the drain pipe. It broke my heart to take home a couple of lovely little male walleyes and to gag when I cut into them. They smelled like well used 30 weight oil.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]A lot of that junk is still in the muddy sediments and contributes today to the high levels of PCBs in some Utah Lake species.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The good news is that the worst is far in the past, and most fish are safe and tasty today.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry. I probably messed up your trip. Waljustia and I planned a trip for today...but we planned it several days ago. Mama Nature said "Oh no you don't" and got all huffy. We looked at the forecast yesterday and decided to bag it. Glad we did.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We have plenty of time to go fishing. The good cattin' around the reeds is still a month away. Stay in touch and we will get together and gang up on them sometime.[/#0000ff]
