hyrum perch in spring and summer help
#1
I posted this question a few days ago but had no responce. I know some of you know so chime in and help a battle buddy out. When fishing for perch in hyrum during the spring and summer, how do I fish for them? Can I just jig in 30' of water with some jigs tipped with bait like we do ice fishing?

I've used a night crawler on a jig head by the spill way and caught a few.

[cool][#0000ff]When the water gets warmer a lot of perch move close to shore. However, you will generally catch bigger fish by fishing just a bit deeper than where you are catching the small ones. And, the fish sometimes group by year class (size), so if you are catching nothing but bitty ones, move.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Perch will take a piece of worm, but they also hit jigs, spinners and even larger lures fished for bass and trout. One of the best offerings for decent perch is to use small tube jigs tipped with a piece of perch meat.[/#0000ff]

Ok Nathan here it is. One of my favorite spots on the lake for Perch is over the car pile on the north side of the lake about 200 yards east of the boat ramp. Early in the spring they will be close to the bottom around 20-35 feet deep. Use a very small jig tipped with a worm until you catch the first one. Then start tipping the jig with a Perch eye. As the water warms I will start looking for them in the upper end in the flats east of the inlet. A bobber and a worm works great over the growing weed beds.

Another go to spot in the spring is the southwest pullout by the dam if you are bank fishing. The water is deep there and the Perch are on the bottom. Just use a piece of worm with a mellow on the bottom. You will also pick up trout that way.

Early spring they are on the spawn and they are on the bottom- out of the SW corner isn't a bad spot- car bodies are OK as is the drop off that just west of the rock pile.
In the evening as the water warms you can watch them cruise the weed lines on the eastern flats. As TD said you just can't beat a piece of perch meat
