Oyster Resource to Be Topic of March 13 Public Workshop
#1
The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public workshop on the status of the Delaware oyster fishery at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13 in the DNREC Auditorium, 89 Kings Highway, Dover. The workshop will be followed by the regularly scheduled Shellfish Advisory Council meeting at 7 p.m.

Division staff will present information from the annual October oyster bed survey and answer questions from the public about the survey results. Staff recommendations regarding annual quota, harvest season dates and approved harvesting areas for the 2008 season will be presented for public review and comment.

Time permitting, the workshop will also include review and discussion of potential projects that may begin in 2008 as part of DNREC's oyster bed revitalization effort. Public input will be solicited to assist the staff in formalizing options for selecting future shell planting sites as part of the revitalization work.
