[#008000][frown] Before I left for Bishop in the Eastern Sierras I went to the DWP's website to check the weather, wind conditions, water flow etc. Temps were running in the high 70s, water flow about 250, wind around 2 mph. Bull s***. Except for the temperature, the winds were gusting at over 25 mph, river was flowing at over 600 and it is quite stained. Needless to say the fly fishermen were nowhere to be found. Did run into several folks throwing iron with their spinning gear who wheren't having any luck. Met some nice folks at a local fly shop but they wren't too encouraging about conditions changing soon. Then I stopped in at the local Elks Lodge for my afternoon marty. Several brothers had just come back from fishing but there wasn't any bragging going on here either. Did get some suggestions as to where I can do some wading without the fear of getting my waders ripped off. However, the location they mentioned was about 2000 feet higher so who knows what the wind condition will be. Just thought that I would let MacFly know what is going on and that his little black cloud is big enough for two. LOL Well at least I can get on line here and read about our BFTers[/#008000]

[frown][#008000]Oh no the river is too high for wading. Will try to get out there early tomorrow morning before the winds come up again. I guess bank fishing will be the order of the day. Wind expected to be blowing around 6 mph. The Bishops news mentioned that gusts were measured today around 35 mph. Great weather for kite flying.[/#008000]

Try fishing the edges with large nymphs, wooly buggers. Or strip some streamers.
Try red and black or orange and black flies.

[cool][#008000]Well today was even better. Air temps in the mid 30s & water temperature 38. Got to Weir Lake around a little after 7. My Gps had the elevation at 9750'. Guess one could call it an Alpine lake. Caught several 6/7 bow stockers around 10" & 1 about 14". The latter was quite stocky. While taking a break a father & son drove up to try their hand at fly fishing. They were the only other people that I have seen all week to be fly fishing. Oddly enough we all live in the same town. Will have to revisit my choice of socks. Although I was wearing heavy wool socks my feet were cold as ice. [/#008000]
[#008000]While everyone had suggested nymphs, etc I went strickly with dries. [/#008000]
[#008000]The lake is fed by a heavy running stream and appears to be no deeper than 4'. Truly a wader's dream scene.[/#008000]

[#008000][cool]Thanks Scruffy_Fly, While I am not a literary genius by any means I like to include visual aids to enhance my description of my adventure. Unfortunately I just don't get out there as much as our Utah friends. BTW here is a picture of the Lower Owens River. Hardly a place for one to wade & fly fish.[/#008000][#008000] It reminded me of a chocolate milk shake. Both in color & movement.[/#008000]

A common problem with cold feet is having boots and/or waders that are too tight. It restricts blood flow and causes your feet to be cold no matter how well insulated they are.

But you got to admit, when it is that cold, don't matter how big your shoes are....now where did I put that 9V battery LOL.
I buy those $0.97 toe warmers...allot!
Thanks for pointing out the circulation thing though Cat Man.
DR, you take some beautiful pictures there. I want to get up to our Uinta's but I am afraid it won't be till the middle of July this year. A little higher elevation then what you were in, but the waters are vodka clear (never understood why everyone always said GIN) and the fish colors are bar non.
Thanks for the visuals!

[cool][#008000]Hi there cat_man - no, the problem is not that my waders or boots are too tight. Believe that heavier weighted socks would solve the problem. 39ยบ temperature was a bit more than what the socks that I was wearing could tolerate. Stopped by BassPro & checked their socks out. The clerk suggested a pair that was way too bulky. Although he said I could try them on and slip on a pair of booties to test the fit. At this point don't think I will need them right away[/#008000].

[#008000][cool]Fishing in crystal clear water [clear as gin or vodka what ever is your preference] is a treat. Especially since I could see the fish come up & take my dries. [inline "v or g.jpg"][/#008000]
