The Gods took pity on me.

[size 4][font "Garamond"][#008000]Yesterday the winds were really blowing hard, the temps around 80 and the Lower Owens River was flowing at 600 fps. Needless to say it wasn't the type of weather or conditions that would excite a fly fisherman. Talked to several guys at the Elks lodge Monday afternoon and they suggested that I might want to give Bishop Creek a try. So this morning I headed out for this creek. Leaving Bishop at 4000' I arrived in the Bishop Creek area with an elevation of 8900'. The temperature was 28 and there was snow on the ground. It did warm up to a cool 32 by 11 am. Water temps ranged from 36 to 42. Little portions of quiet pools were frozen over. Found a great area to wade but I didn't have my heavy duty thermos on. Never expected the elevation nor the low temperature. Tomorrow I will be prepared. One fellow who was wading caught an 18" bow apparently a hold over. I caught two bows [about 12”down stream by a beavers dam. Was using my 9’ 4wt. Could have used a 6-7’ 3wt. There is limited room for casting along most of the length of Bishop Creeks. Roll casting and a side arm flip got my fly to it’s destination. However, the two fish were caught within 10’ from were I was standing. BTW been taking a lot of pictures that I can look at when our fall temps gets to be over 100.
