ACCESS FACILITY AT WINNISQUAM LAKE, LACONIA, SCHEDULED TO OPEN JULY 1, 2008
#1
CONCORD, N.H. -- The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's new boat access site on Lake Winnisquam in Laconia is currently scheduled to open on July 1, 2008. In the meantime, the facility will remain closed while the Department's contractor completes work on the facility, which will be the first state-owned and -operated public boat access on Lake Winnisquam. The lake is 4,264 acres in size, but currently has only one public boat access, which is fee-based.
The Winnisquam Access site is being constructed on state-owned property off Water Street in Laconia. It will include: a parking area for 31 cars and trailers, 5 cartop spaces, an entrance road, staging area, double boat ramps, permanent floating dock and timber wharfs for temporary tie-up. The facility will have many features to allow access for individuals with disabilities.

"We are pleased that the project will open this summer to provide public access to Lake Winnisquam for anglers and boaters, but we do ask for your patience while we get the job done," said Glenn Normandeau, N.H. Fish and Game Executive Director. "We also want to acknowledge the many partners that helped make this project possible, especially the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, the City of Laconia, the Lake Winnisquam Association, the Public Water Access Advisory Board, abutting landowners and many others who contributed to and supported this cooperative effort."

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department works in partnership with the public to conserve, manage and protect the state's fish, wildlife and marine resources and their habitats. Public boat access projects are funded through a combination of federal Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration program monies from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and a $5 surcharge placed on New Hampshire boating registrations.
