Need Trolling Motor Help
#1
I bought a Minn Kota Endura 30 this evening for Colorado XT pontoon/kickboat. The toon is 9' long & weighs 70 lbs & I'd say close to 100 lbs w/ gear & everthing on it.
So, The Endura 30 is 12 volts, how big of a batter do I need? How big of a battery charger do I need? Will a Walmart marine battery work? Also how heavy are these batteries?
Thanks!

You will want to have a deep-cyclel 12 v with longest amp hrs you can afford. It is nice to have a closed cell battery so if it would tip or be on it's side it would not leak and would work. They are heavy and that will just depend on the battery you choose. The biggest concern is the amp hrs or how long it will last.

Battery charger any charger will do but a slow charger (low amperage) will be easier on the battery (I believe). There is some good info if you google search about deep-cycles.

You DO need a Deep Cycle battery, and I have found the bigger is better. I haven't bought the close cell. One because I have never had one tip over and the Price difference, I just can't justify.

Now the reason for DEEP CYCLE? Because it is the only one you can keep recharging, and you will be recharging pretty much after each trip.

I have had more problems with CHARGERS than anything. I broke down and bought the Minn Kota MK 220 dual charger

Pricy, but we have two batteries and this charges them very fast, like 4 hours. It is worth every penny, cause I can charge both batteries completely off the generator up camping without letting it run all day.

Sad truth is, you are going to be looke at 60/60.....60 lbs and $60.

Also, if you plan on putting the motor on the back of the toon and you want it to PULL you as they are designed to do, loosen the head and turn it so that it is facing the same direction as the prop. This gives you all forward controls to pull you and reverse if you need to go forward (like into shore).
Don't forget Licensing fees also.
