Yak fishing Thurday night 6/12
#1
Launched at callville @ 7pm with my buddy and our kayaks. Very slight breeze, and glassy water. Warm and beautiful. Went out and to the right over to where the stand-alone rock island is, and started throwing rubber crawdads and tube jigs up against the chunk. Largemouth started nailing the plastics right away, and it was a steady pick of schooler sized bass (1 to 1 1/2lbs) and a couple that were over 2lbs for about an hour. Good moonlight, so the bass were able to key in on the plastics, even after it was dark. Switched from rubbers to topwaters once it was real dark. I was using a small black heddon prop bait, and by buddy was using an arbogast jitterbug. We had bass launching full on aerial assaults on our baits. They couldnt get enough of our hooks. I had some of the most amazing fights with some of these bass. Every single fish that came on the top wanted to fly. Ive never seen that many bass jump that many times in one sitting. It was amazing. We both lost a few good fish that threw our plugs in a furious attempt to be airborne. I lost a good fish, maybe 2 1/2lbs that jumped right at the side of my yak, threw the plug, and my left shoulder got impaled by one of my trebles. Not too deep, no vital organs, but that fish fought back. Great night on the water. Gonna start doing more twilight trips.
Didn't keep a running tally, but I think we released somewhere over 25 or 30 bass between the 2 of us. Strange thing was that neither of us caught a smallie. I was throwin my craw a little deeper to try and pull one up, but it was a largemouth-only night. I wish i could perform like that during club tournaments! Im gettin better with the bass though... maybe this is my year.

I know how that feels......took a treble in the face once when a 3/4 oz kastmaster let loose from a striper at the side of the boat.

Sounds like a trip you will remember for a long time!
