Took the family to CJ Strike for the day last Saturday. This was my first time to this reservoir. I stopped by a fishing shop in Bruneau and asked the owner for some tips on the reservoir. He was more than willing to give me some advice on where would be a good place to take the family. I don't remember the name of his place, but I appreciate his help.
While my wife and kids played in the water, I took the float tube out and started targeting bass. I fished for about an hour and only caught one tiny smallie. During that time I could constantly feel panfish biting on my skirted grub. So I decided to throw on a small white jig and see what type of fish these were. As soon as my jig hit the water I started catching crappie. Literally every cast I would either hookup and they would get off or I would catch one. There were a few that were nice sized but most were pretty small. After a half hour of this I decided I would go back and see if my 2 year old daughter wanted to go out and try and catch some with me. She did, so we put on her life jacket and kicked back out to where I was catching them. It was great. She loved reeling them in and even got to where she would let me cast out, then she would hold the pole and reel it in. Since the crappie were still cooperating, they would hook themselves while she was reeling. She got a kick out of that.
Overall it was a great day. My daughter also got the hang of holding up the fish "like Dad" for the pictures.
