Porcupine Report 6-25
#1
Trolled for Kokes last night for a couple hours. It doesn't seem like they are schooled up into huge groups yet. I caught a few and lost a few. The sonar was not showing much, leading me to believe they are pretty shallow and spread out. I think the thermocline is not very deep based on what the sonar was showing.

Thanks for the report. I need to head up there real soon, possibly this weekend.

You know if it wasn't for all the jet skiiers, etc I'd really like that lake.

Thanks for the report mileniner. Sounds like the fishing is just okay right now, but I don't know if I will head that way at all due to all of the boats, skiers and just plain boneheads on the lake.

Better luck to ya!

The water has cleared up a lot. There is still some debris showing up on sonar, but not like it was a month ago. Visibility seemed really good. I don't understand why Porcupine is slower to get going on the kokes than other locations. My suspicion is that because it is so small and fills up so fast with the run off the dirty water just puts them in a bad situation until summer. I bet it would be good starting at ice off and throughout the spring if the water level was a little more stable.

If someone else starts catching them I would like to compare notes and figure out if they are catching them in the same areas as me. I usually fish the same spots, but suspect them may be spread out pretty evenly, especially since they don't seem to be structure oriented.

Between the daily wake board competitions, unexploded Soviet submarine mines, and last years chemical spill, I would not recommend anyone go up there. I also hear they are probably going to drain the place soon. It is really a crappy place to be. [Wink]

It already erupted. Road is completely wiped out. If you don't have pack mules don't bother. Luckily I have a team of them, so I took my family up there again tonight and caught a bunch more.

My 3 year old daughter swims in the live well, while I fish. She acts like it is a hot tub on a cruise ship. Pretty funny.

Must be a very big live well or your daughter must be very small[Wink]. We went up there today and found it very slow also[frown]. I think those mine fields had us worried so much it keep us from catching many fish.
