Yuba 6-26
#1
Launched my tube at 5:30am behind the bridge. The water sure is low already. Just enough water to kick under the bridge. Started catching fish right off. Perch, carp, and four northerns. The pike were all about 18", the smallest I've seen. I caught fish from 13' to 20', with most of the perch in about 18'. Chartreuse roadrunners were the hot item. Several boats chasing walleye. One guy was anchored up about half-a-cast from shore on a point and another walleye fisherman trolled between him and the bank! He then proceeded to troll through the "no boats" buoys and over to the launch. Perch fishing is fast right now, I caught at least 30. Nothing under 10" but the bigger ones were right at 12"

Great post. I used to fish Yuba quite a bit as a kid. During my first year at college they closed the shores to fishing except in certain areas. Had a great time there. I might have to try that in a couple of weeks. Is it still posted private property below the spillway? I have caught some great fish down there but it has been posted for a while. Great perch by the way.

Below the dam is still posted, and they aggresively enforce it. The CO says the only place you can fish from the shore for free is between Oasis and the dam. There are signs on the dam that so no fishing, but people do anyway.

I didn't talk to anyone. The boats I saw that were pretty obviously walleye fishing were moving around too much to be on them, and not trolling. Most guys were ancoring off points. This was my fourth trip to Yuba this year, the other three in my boat, and not a single walleye.

I was there on sunday evening and the perch were hungry. I cant beleive how much water has been drained even with all the moisture we got this winter kinda Sad.

Nice mess of fish you got there.
Wish I had the gas money to make the trip.
Yuba is on my list of places to revisit for perch fishin, along with cathin a Pike.
Haven't caught a pike ever, and would like to get into some.
Last time I went to Yuba, the Perch were the biggest I'd seen, all fat too.
The funny story about it was, I bought one of those hot and cold thermal bags at Sam's Club to put them in, and the fish were dead when I started the 2 1/2 hour drive home, so I thought.
When I got home, I started to fillet one, and it scared the crap out of me when it started to flop all over the place, and onto the floor.[shocked]
So a quick wack to the head fixed that.[crazy] They were very good eatin.

Good question - I don't think the Panquitch Basin had an over abundance of snow like elsewhere and they may be holding more in Otter Creek and Piute. I have not seen them so I am not sure. I know the Delta res is plum full and DMAD is pretty high and they are irrigating like crazy. With grain prices what they are - every drop that can be taken will be taken. I was surprised at how low it was already as well.

I was at Piute last Saturday. It isn't very full either. They were letting a good amount of water out also. I imagine it's going to get really low this year too.
