[#002850]A company visitor from Denver, Mr. Dave Virga, wanted to know what all the fuss was about those wipers in Willard Bay. So he and I made an early trip out there this morning. I picked him up at his motel at 5:00 AM and we launched at about 5:45. While launching, we also ran into Gene, another friend from work. Gene is a member of BFT but I don’t remember his handle. Good to see you made it out Gene.
We trolled for about two hours with absolutely nothing ... first out north of the island then up the N-W dike. At about 9:00 we finally hit the honey pot ... over S-W of the island. Once we found the fish it was a quick four in the boat in about 20 minutes! We finished the day of at about 11:00 so that Dave could catch a plane back home. Before quitting, he had boated 7 wipers and a walleye.
Here was his first ever humpy hybrid: [/#002850]

Not too bad for your first time dave:

[#002850]As I write this, Dave is on a plane with a couple pounds of wiper steakes in baggies in his luggage.
We were able to catch them on any lure that was a little bit longer, gray sides, white belly, and black back. Among the several good lures was the Rapala Slash bait and some Wal-Mart specials that FishNCoach turned me onto (thanks Ron).
We trolled about 3.2 mph GPS. The water temps was about 75 degrees.
I’m taking my grandkids out Tuesday AM. Looking forward to that.[/#002850]
