World's Largest Trout - The Taimen
#1
Up to 6' long and over 200 pounds. These big trout are really suffering, but conservation efforts AND catch and release fishing are helping to save them in the beautiful Eg River in Mongolia, a fly fisher's exotic paradise.

This great little video (linked below) highlights this rare species, the Taimen, and describes the many benefits of fishing to help preserve them from extinction.

Here's a pic from the video:

That one is a good size.

There are many species that benefit from C&R.

Dead fish don't grow.[cool]

Holy crap! What kind of poundage are we looking at as far as line goes? That would be a huge accomplishment for me to bring in! In fact, seeing as how it is the same weight as me...It'd be a big accomplishment for anyone right? Nice Post! [Wink]

You don't need more than a 40wt with an electric wench. lol

Actually most of them are caught on an 11 to 15wt flyrod with a leader up to 15lb test.

Be sure to have plenty of backing and a large enough Mid Arbor.[cool]

15wt fly? That's wicked becuase I only use a 10lb line. I'm just making a comparison, but a fish of that size seems like it would put up more of a fight than one worth a 15wt line. I'm impressed once again! Now a 40wt line and a wench, that's a sight! I watched a show about fishing like that. I think they were catching giant tuna though.
