Hey all.....
I went out for my 4th time ever fly fishing today. I hit the lower provo and got skunked...again. I have been thinking that I may have a better chance at fishing for Bass ...but I am not sure. Do any of you have any suggestions on where I can go bass fishing with my fly rod (preferably not jordanelle).....and maybe some tips on what to look for when i'm trying to find a spot to catch them?
Thanks.

Oh boy do I hear you! I picked up fly-fishing in '87, and it took me six months to catch my first Provo River trout (I went ten-twelve times in that six months). It gets easier!
For bass, I'd try Deer Creek or Rockport. Look for shallower areas and any structure, like rocky bottoms. There are spots to fly-fish from the bank at these lakes. There are also white bass in fly-casting range from the bank on Utah Lake in and around Lindon Boat Harbor if you're nearby (it's $5 to drive in, and $2 to walk in).

Thanks for the reply!
As far as fly fishing...I am going to try to go again today to the provo. This would be my 3rd time this week alone and my 5th one over all. I am determined to catch something........but I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I've looked at all the fishing reports for what is hitting at the Provo and have purchased a bunch of those flies. I have also looked in the water when i'm out there for what flies are on the top and I usually tie one on that looks as close as possible to what i catch....but still nothing.
I keep hearing how good the Provo is, and I don't doubt it....I just don't know how to catch them. It's funny because I know i'll probably go up there 12 times before I catch one......and after I catch the 1, I will forget about all 12 times I was skunked.....I know it only takes one fish....

The middle and lower Provo can be frustrating at times even for the most expert fisherman. I might suggest trying a little bit smaller water at first. The lower Provo at 600 cfs can be a little intimidating in terms of figuring out where the fish are holding and how to present your fly. Send me a pm and I'll try to give you some suggestions on places that might give you a better introduction to the sport.
