Certainly a different story than last year, but why? My wife and I fished Magic yesterday, and although we caught lots of trout, most of which we released, they were much smaller than last year. Also, last year the res. was full of boats, but we only saw one other boat the entire day. Westside still has two ramps in the water, and concrete. The water is starting to get a bit mossy. We found the fish at 17-21 feet. We tried the upper end, and by the dam, but caught virtually all of our fish off the East Side Resort in about 40 feet of water. I know the bank fishermen have been picking up fish to 4 pounds, but no such luck for these trollers! Mike

Great report. Why do you think you are catching fish of a different size. Did a year class die or did they just move?

Hi, Windriver--I have no doubt that the big fish of last year are still in there, and have been hearing some reports that occasionally bank fishermen get into the big ones, and that they are hitting real soft, but fighting like crazy once hooked. Many are running in the 4 lb. range. Perhaps the warmer water prevents them from actively pursuing trolled gear, maybe they have plenty of food available, as there were several hatches going on when we were there. Who knows? I have been actively fishing for 50 years, and still can't figure them out!! Perhaps fall fishing from the bank might be good, if one can keep the little perch off. Mike
