Strawberry 8/3/08
#1
Fished the berry from 7:00am - 5:00pm with RAK today. Found fish right from the get go in 37' of water just off the knolls. The fish moved out to 49 around 9:00 then moved out to 58' - 60' around 2:00. Boated close to 5 dozen and lost plenty. Largest was a 23 inch cutt plus a handful of 22 inchers. All fish where caught on pearl or glow 2.5" tube jiggs.

Hey Mike,
Nice job!
We were at Strawberry the day before (Saturday 8/2) and for the first time EVER, my cousin got skunked at the Berry! I caught 5 but we had to work for every single one. We didn't arrive till 10:30 a.m. just as the wind was starting. Two anchors would not hold us ANYWHERE and we had zero boat control. We tried the knolls, but couldn't stay put, even with the two anchors, too much wind.
I'm having a tough time fishing at my favorite lake this year. Actually having to work for every fish I catch!
Randy

Edit: In looking back at our logs and journals, I see that Arron (my cousin) was skunked at the Berry last year once also. 3/3/07, Ice fishing. We were BOTH skunked at the Berry, then went to UL to salvage the trip. Arron caught one white bass.

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

Nice work Mike. I'll miss the personal reports I get from my pops when he finishes up that job at Weber. We'll have to go up there this fall with him.

I'd be interested in going up tomorrow if anyone wants to split gas. I'm planning on tubing it but, if someone has a boat I'll go 50/50 on it. Any takers?

NETO, the Berry treated you good last year kinda spoiled ya.

One thing that has been consistent on most days this year is that the catching is best from 7:00am - 11:00am after that the fish move and it slows down, you have to go find them again. 40 of our 60 fish where caught before 11:00am.

Thanks Mike!
I'm hoping my cousin reads this post...he is convinced that "the fishing is just as good in the middle of the day as it is in the morning". Now I have some ammunition, and some proof!

To Arron (My cousin):
Please refer to MGB's post above...now you know why I like to leave at 4:30 a.m. when we go to the Berry!!!
