I was up diamond fork last night. If it rains just before you go, plan on looking to find an area that's not stained red. Some areas of the river looked like chocolate because of all the clay running into the stream, but there were some clear areas too. Not much top water action because of the clouds. My friend had a few hits on an elk hair caddis, but most action was on nymphs. Everything I caught was on a BH prince nymph about 3 feet below my dry. Good luck!

Ever try San Juans in those conditions? I would think the little worms are getting washed up. That just seems the perfect time. I know run off was.

Where is the best access? I have a book that says go above the campground but it is 10 years old so I just don't know.

I would at least suggest going past Three Forks where the trailhead is for the hot springs. You might need to bush wack a little, but there's some great little spots.

Well, we got up to Diamond Fork yesterday. We found a few holes above the campground. I caught a little brown on a prince nymph and a brown and a rainbow on an elk hair caddis. That's a pretty good day for me. I very rarely catch more than 2 in a day - anywhere. Unfortunately my friend didn't catch anything. But it was pretty fun. I found the terrain around the creek pretty challenging. Just a lot of thick bushes and stuff. I got a little scraped up and my line snagged quite a bit. All in all it was fun. Thanks for the advice.

Nice that you caught a few. Sorry it wasn't faster for you. Were you getting other strikes and just not hooking them, or were they just not biting a lot?
