Citizen Input Sought on Proposed Rules for Managing Construction on the Lake Erie Coast
#1
Informational meetings scheduled for September at three locations along the shoreline

SANDUSKY, OH - Citizens with an interest in the future of the Lake Erie coast and how shoreline construction projects are handled are encouraged to express their opinions at a series of public informational meetings set for September on the coastline.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Office of Coastal Management is sponsoring the meetings to solicit input on proposed Ohio Administrative Code rules for managing construction and improvements along the shore. The rules reflect a new policy for managing the state's coastal lands that was announced by Governor Ted Strickland on July 13, 2007. A full text of the policy, along with the proposed rules, is available on the ODNR Office of Coastal Management Web site at ohiodnr.com.

These updates incorporate public comments received since the initial set of draft rules were announced in September 2007. Citizens who want to compare the proposed rules as they are currently worded with what was initially proposed by ODNR may do so at www.ohiodnr.com/coastal/ and select "Land Management".

Public informational meetings on the proposed rules are scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

Thursday, September 4 - Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

14000 West State Route 2 in Oak Harbor, Ottawa County

Thursday, September 11- Painesville Township Park<br />
1025 Hardy Road in Painesville, Lake County

Thursday, September 18 - Don Umerley Civic Center<br />
21016 Hilliard Boulevard in Rocky River, Cuyahoga County

Additional information on the proposed Ohio Administrative Code rules and the upcoming public meetings is available by calling 419-626-7980.
