DNR to Hold Public Meeting to Review Zumbro River Smallmouth Bass Regulation
#1
Smallmouth bass catch-and-release regulations on a 12-mile stretch of the Zumbro River from the Lake Zumbro dam to the Minnesota Highway 63 bridge in Zumbro Falls will be the subject of a public meeting from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Mazeppa Community Center.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) fisheries biologists will discuss the history of the regulations and the current status of the smallmouth population in the Zumbro River. Anglers and other interested citizens are encouraged to attend and provide their perspectives after the DNR fisheries presentation.

Current regulations require anglers to immediately release all smallmouth bass along this stretch of river, including the plunge pool below the Lake Zumbro dam. The regulations initially went into effect in 1997, but were modified in 2002 to include additional river miles and again in 2003 to include the plunge pool below the Lake Zumbro dam.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and DNR fisheries staff will begin their presentation at 7 p.m. The community center is in downtown Mazeppa.

Individuals unable to attend the meeting can address questions and comments to the DNR Area Fisheries Office, 1801 South Oak St., Lake City, MN 55041, (651) 345-3365.
