[cool]I posted these pics on the Utah board, not to brag, but to let some folks know that by sharing my stuff I am not liable to run myself short on supplies. I definitely have enough stuff to tie most of the flies and make most of the lures I will need for a few days anyway.
Hey, JapanRon, what do you think of my little tying bench on casters, in the foreground of the second pic? Another "mother of necessities"...or however that goes.
Didn't include the cabinet full of jig molds and lead...and melting pots. Also does not include the "overflow" and float tubes in the garage.

Many years back when moving from Denver to Tucson, the mover asked if he owned a tackle store. He said "no" ... but we can all see that he does! I'm not complaining, though, because I reap the benefits of him having all that he needs to keep me in jigs (or whatever it is that I may need) and keep all my tackle in tip-top shape.

[cool]Sorry, Halibut. No first-borns. I have been trying to get rid of mine for years. No demand for 'em.
Tube Babe likes to remind me that "He who dies with the most toys...is still dead.". She also reminds me that my life expectancy is equivalent to me taking care of her gear and keeping her supplied with the "right stuff".
It is not a competition, my friend. I have invested continuously over a long period of time, and my dividends are being able to share with others what I have learned. I sometimes wonder what my fishing career would have been if some nice person would have just told me everything I needed to know...many long years ago. But then I stop to think that "THE JOURNEY IS IT'S OWN REWARD". The learning process is almost as much fun as the ultimate enjoyment of catching fish on the creations of your own design.
I sometimes scare the heck out of myself trying to guess how much it would cost to replace the wall in those pics. Obviously, there are things that could never be replaced, for any amount. But the total value, in dollars and cents, in nothing compared to the fun I have had in experimenting and the enjoyment I have had in using and sharing the results.
As I try to convince my better half, all of that stuff is vital and necessary. Life, as I know it, would be impossible without my wall of goodies. But, it is amazing how many new things are coming out every day that cry for a place in all those boxes and bins. Keeps life interesting...and makes me keep working to support my habit.

[ ] What? that is the only thing left I have to sell or trade!!! You two were made for eachother, one makes the jigs andthe other uses them...LOL. I hope to invest in a wall like yours sometime in the future. I notice jig tying takes up alot of room. Gotta get me a bigger pad to prepare for the future increase of fishing inventory. Perhaps my fishing room will never be a room as big as yours, my friend, but hoping it will mean just as much to me as your room means to you. I noticed alot of spinning gear... no casting stuff?

I had to tell my wife that "in some ways fishing is like golfing," you have to have the right club for the right situation. I used this excuse for my first 3 fly-rods. Now that I'm getting into spinning stuff I'll have to pull out the reasons why I "need" another rod.
All in all, she has been extremely patient for one that does not fish . . . yet.
Nice setup TD! I would be like a kid in a candy store with all those tying materials there. With this new house, I will have at least a place to put all of my tying stuff. More importantly, I'll have a place to keep my 'toon locked and loaded at all times. Currently, the frame is in at least 3 pieces with the bladders deflated, all in my "storage area" aka the trunk of my car. With me being that close to the lake, locked and loaded at all times, I'll just have to strap the toon up on the roof for the 5 minute drive to the lake or river[angelic].
I'm so excited!!!!!

[cool]My dear halibut. Do you really believe that I would profess to be "the compleat angler" without casting gear. It is the fourth row back, in the picture. If you look in my most recent post, with the two catfish, you will see that the rig at the rear or the rod rack is a casting rod. I do own and use several casting setups, from light to heavy flipping.
Actually, jig tying takes only a small amount of space. "THE WALL" includes many boxes of assorted plastic baits, spoons, hardbaits, spinnerbaits, buszbaits and other lures. One section is for rod building. Another for nothing but hooks...for flytying, jig making, plastic baits, bait fishing, etc. Many of the plastic compartmented boxes on the right side of the room are indeed full of jig heads. Some are plain unpainted lead. Many are painted. With all of the different sizes, styles and colors, I need a system of organization to keep them straight. That means that about two times a year I have to go through all the boxes and put everything back together again after just grabbing before a trip and dumping after coming back.
Maybe I should come over some weekend and we can have a charity carwash...so that Halibut can get a "wall". Better yet, let's go "wash" some lures together on the water. That sounds like more fun to me.

[cool]All I gotta say, Nate, is that once you finish unpacking, it's gonna be SWE-E-E-E-E-E-T. You should be able to take full advantage of the proximity of the water. If you don't, it's your own fault. However, you are good enough with the excuses, so don't rely on me to help with the "fishing passes".
How's that new linebacker doing? Have the college scouts been knocking on your door yet?

Got an offer for you ... I'll teach you how to use TB's jigs if you will show me how to catch a halibut!! It would be such a thrill for me to catch one of those. I'm usually ready to leave for any fishing trip in the offing ... but it may be a few months before we are able to make it over there (you can be sure that it is high on our priority list).

Hey TubeDude,
What kind of plastic do you use to pour your little shad bodies that you sent me?! Those are the strongest plastics Ive ever used!!!
I went tubin to Alamitos today after lunch (ditched a 5th period block schedule, 2 hrs of PE) and I ended up with 3 short halibut and a sand bass on that little white plastic with a white ball jig head on it. The one halibut was the closest Ive ever gotten to being legal in the tube, 18 in!!![cool] The other two were 13 in and the bass was like 9 in.
You wanna send me one of those bass rods???????[ ]
hahahahaha

[cool]I don't pour plastics. That's about all that I buy. The shad were probably plain old Sassy Shad...made by Mister Twister. They were some of the first on the market. Today there are a whole bunch of manufacturers. And you are right. Some of the new stuff is soft. Fish like it, but it gets chewed up fast.
About donating rods. As you can tell from the picture, I only have barely enough rods for my own use. However, if I was to adopt you, you might have access to some of my gear. But, since I have three kids too many already, there ain't much chance of me adopting you.
Nice try, though.

Hi there TubeDude,
Ah this takes me back to my collecting days. Unlike you, I didn't collect stuff to make stuff, I collected it because it was cheap or free. In Japan, I had around 3,000 rods and around 400 reels, 50 or so tackle boxes, ashtrays, nets, pictures, food utensils, bottles, you name it, if it had a fish on it, or fish related I had it.
Upon moving back to the US, I decided to liquidate everything but what I would bring home to fish with and... and old early WWII Japanese Imperial Army fishing reel. I had a room that was filled so full you could only stand in the middle 2 square feet of open space. Otherwise a forest of rods, yada yada.
I've never looked back and vowed to never collect again. If TubeBabe were to squawk tell her my story. She's bound to feel better. ha ha

[cool]You can never be too rich, too thin, have too much flat surface to pile stuff on...or have too much fishing gear. Well, maybe.
The only time TB squawks is when I don't keep her supplied too. I'm sure she will read your post and have something "appropriate" to contribute.
Too bad you couldn't have brought back all the goodies from Japan. You could have had the "Mother of all yard sales."

[ ] Hey Tubedude! Looks like Little fish's garage![laugh][laugh] I also have a lot of stuff but only use my two favorite poles and tackle when I go out. Lots of plastics but mostly used for night fishing for the bass.

[cool]Hey, my friend. Where have you been? Halibut says you have been getting some legals. Any size on them?
I love to use plastics at night too. I used to use feathers a lot, in the olden days, but with so many new and improved plastic baits now, there is no comparison.
Are you still working those long hours?

Hey there Tubedude,
No more long hours for now, but we are heading into the sleepwalk zone soon! We have tons of work coming soon in Hospitals and Casinos. I guess they need air conditioning also!![laugh] My son has been on the computer "Nick Jr." and has been taking up a lot of hours and bumped me off! He's taking a little break right now at dinner. I have a lot of catching up to do it looks like!
The times I have been going out I've been getting a couple of legal Halibuts inside Alamitos Bay with the live smelts. Last week on Friday I caught two legals at 23" and 23 3/4 or 1/2". One of them had a bite mark on it!! When I fillet her the meat was kind of rough around the bite mark so I just threw that area away. Still had some nice fillets though!
So far this year most of my Halibuts have been small. Most in the 23" range.

I'm scared to eat anything out of alamitos bay!![:/][:/] that water is nasty.... all the fuel, oil from the boats, and all the feces from all the little kids.... if you ever want some live squid or sardines or anything, try asking some of the fishermen coming in on there boats... chris, aaron, and i got atleast $40 worth of bait from those guys..... live and fresh dead squid, live sardines, and live anchovies... worked out great for us.... aaron got an 8lb smoothhound shark, and chris got a 20" 'but....
