I went elk hunting this last weekend but they weren't as active as I would like so I called my wife and met up with the family over in Woodland and went camping up the Mirror Lake Highway. We stayed at Lilly Lake (my daughter name is Lillian so she picked it) and fished there and at Teacup (Teapot?) that night. The fish were rising like crazy but I didn't have much time to fish that night and couldn't figure out what they wanted until the next day. I kept trying the usual Uintah flies then small midges and finally a Griffith's Gnat #22. That was the ticked. We started pounding the trout. Our largest fish was about 2 1/2 inches. The next day we packed up and drove up to Bonnie Lake and caught some Brook trout using a #14 foam ant immitation that worked really well and is much easier to spot on the water than a #22. My daughter could cast her fly rod far enough to catch the fish so I cast the rod while she managed the line. It was fun to see her strip in the line hand over hand with a fish on. I had fun, the kids had a great time and my wife didn't kill either of us so it was a great trip.
