Now that the water levels are WAY down on the narrows down in the 400's cu ft/sec now fishing on the river is back to the way it was, FUN !! Went out last night arrived around 6:45pm fished for only an hour and put several fish in the net and missed just as many. I'm new to the fly fishing tactics and the more i do it the more and more i love it. i fished with a wholly bugger black with gold strips in the tail and killed em i only got to fish one whole because it got dark on me and i was doing so well just in that one spot i decided why leave then the next thing i know it was dark. there is big junks of moss breaking away on the sides but with the river being so high for so long and now it hit a low spot it sure is good fishing right now i only put 2 browns in the net nothing worth keeping the fish where just planters that i got all with in 10-14in range and rainbows and 2 browns. seen plenty of deer which was cool and all and all a well deserved kick off to a hopefully fun weekend!!!!

im jealous! if the river is low try doing this:
where the "boulder field is.... drive to the bridge where it croses the river, park and walk down stream on the opposite side of the river (ie the road is on one side, walk down the other side) to where the river gets deep and slow. try adding a small pice of split shot to your leader and fish that slow deep moving section. i garuntee success. if you dont hook up with at least one NICE rainbow, and at least one decent brown Trout_Slayer will buy you a case of beer. since its a little bit of a jaunt, nothing extreme, take water/drinks and a snack. there is a GIGANTIC boulder/slab of rock, that you can stand on and cast with no interferance from weeds on your back casts with your fly rod. i have actually fallen asleep on that rock many many times, its just that releaxing. one word of caution though, the second you think the water is comming up start heading back! good luck!

I will for sure try that. that sounds like a good spot i know i fished the "bolder field" on the road side yesterday and had one really nice fish but broke my fly line before i could get my net ready (im new at fly fishing) but ya i will try that thanks a lot.
water levels are even lower now there at 402 cu ft/sec as of 11:00am 9-13-08

i was thinking about this on my walk home and this is something i have never tried, would like to see if you could give it a try and if you have success. in that same area, where the water is deep and slow. rig up a 3/4 to 1 ounce weight, a swivel, and a 2 foot lead with either a piece of power bait, or a worm on a floating jig head, or just use a worm blower and blow the worm up. cast it to mid stream and then get a decent tight line let that thing sink to the bottom im wondering if you get some power bait, or a worm down there deep enough, and let it dangle in that slower current, if you wouldent hook up with one of those bruisers that hangs out down there. if you use power bat you might want to use a rubber band and a piece of mesh bag around it so the current doesent strip away the dough ball. also if you use power bait i would use a small treble hook, again because of the current. if you do use a power bait be ready to take something home to eat, cause chances are if you hook something in there with that set up it will be gut hooked. if you do use that set up, let me know how it works. or if you need some clarification also let me know and then try it next time your up there. in your off time i want you in the back yard practiceing your barrel roll casts on your fly rod [:p]

i understand what your talking about, can do i will take my box with and throw a lot of goodies to them and let you know what goes down. I've seen some nice fish right there never new what i was looking at though if it was brown bows carp what but I've seen some TOADS there I'm trying to get a partner hooked up now and try to head up that way soon today so i will let you know what happens... thanks again man it is nice getting other fisher mans perspectives on there methods and such.......

tomorrow when i go to work ill post a pic of one hell'uva brown Trout_Slayer caught right above the bridge on a piece of split shot or two and a night crawler just bumping the bottom near the pillings. i have to edit it to remove the dude taking a wizz in the background

wow! that's a very good looking brown congrats trout slayer ya i think i know where that whole is its just above the bridge there is a nice deep slow whole there i like fishing there.

didn't make it, but im heading out in about an hour to 2 and fishing tell dark, i will rig that setup and give it a whirl, ill post once im home

bulls. When the water is high, it flushes all kinds of tasty morsels off the islands and banks and the fish feet. Because the water is less clear, you might have to throw your flies a few more times to bump it on the fish's head, but that river can fish consistantly all year long no matter the water conditions.
