I went to DC for the first time yesterday, I took my canoe and drug it down from the parking lot into Rainbow bay. I ended up catching a decent trout on a jakes. However, it was quite fun dragging the canoe back up the hill.
What I was wondering is where is a place perhaps in Wallsburg bay that I can drive my car fairly near to the shore and launch a canoe, so if I am alone I don't have to worry about that hassle. It is quite the row from the designation boat launches near the dam.
On google maps I see a what looks to be a path/road to the water just after the campgrounds. Is that where people launch their toons, tubes and what not?
Also is the launch over at the resort near the island public?

The island launch ramp is public. State park passes work there also.

There is a little pull over just outside the island resort state park, on the road to Heber. A lot of people park there and walk down to the water, it not too steep but it is several hundred yards. Just in case no one has said this before welcome to the site. WH2

Thanks, hopefully I will be able to contribute more often.
So here is an image from google maps of the trail I speak of. Anyone know if that trail is vehicle accessible or still exists?

That looks like one of the trails that has been there since I was a kid (and that has been a few years). The large area near the highway is a sort-of parking lot and you can't drive any closer than that area. It is still a long and fairly steep (when you get closer to the water) walk from that parking lot. If you have a state park's pass they would be the way to go. If that isn't an option access from near the island is likely your next best bet -- but it is still a good hike to the water when the water is as low as it is these days.

The main boat ramp is at the mouth of Wallsburg bay...you can launch there and work your way all through Wallsburg.

sp.copper hasn't said for sure, but I gather that he is looking for a place that he doesn't have to pay to launch.
