Strawberry was a bit wet today... 55.3f
#1
Ok,

It's official. I am insane... I went fishing on Strawberry today and froze to death.. It was as Patrick McManus would say: "A Fine and Pleasant Misery".

What a great day for fishing !!! I was so excited, I forgot to put in the boat plug, but luckily I noticed before we got the boat backed off the trailer. I climbed out the front, held on to the boat and hollered to my buddy to pull us out really slow. Probably took on about 10-20 gallons of water, but that's not too bad. Put in the plug and we were ready to hit the lake.

I caught 9 and my friend caught 6. Most were cuts, but a couple smaller ones were Rainbows. He kept a 20" rainbow but we released the rest of them.

Anyway, our best luck was with a white fly about 2 inches long with a red thread wrapped around the tip. And baited with 1/2 nightcrawler. We caught a couple on a 4" rapalla that looks like a rainbow trout, and we caught a couple on a tube jig (white with grey dots all over it) and 1/2 nightcrawler.

The water is now right around 55 degrees. I've got to find out what all of you guys who are boating 40 fish in a day are using...

Some terms that I need help defining are:

Spook
Mikey Jr
Lucky Craft White Pointer 78
Gulp Minnow on the drop shot
Lucky Craft

Is there any way you guys could take a few pictures of the various lures and setups you are using and let me know what size the lure is (in inches) and what part of the lake you're fishing ?? I'd really like to have a 40 fish day sometime and am looking forward to your help. The depth where you're catching the fish would help too.

Thanks a bunch,
Curtis

Curtis,
If you take your list to Sportsmens, cabelas or whatever sporting goods store is close to your house and talk nice, some salesman should let you look, touch and smell all of those. That way you will know for sure what they are and have the opportunity to select and purchase any one or all of those lures. Be prepared for sticker shock when you see the prices on some of those lures. Good luck on your fishing.

Incidentally, you've got to be pretty dedicated to fish all day in the cold rain and sleet. My hat is off to you. Tight lines

Pretty much the best advice anyone could give for these kind of things is to use your internet Search feature.

Everyone of your terms , including pictures, can be found out there in cyberspace. Just add the word(s) "fishing" or "Fishing lure" after each term, but even that's not necessary (I know cuz I just did it myself)

It's a 5-minute project; have at it...

Right after I got home on Friday from the Berry' my cousin called and wanted me to head bak up on Saturday, but after seeing what the weather was going to do I chose to pass. I was wondering if anyone went out and braved the elements, I usually have no problem braving the bad weather when I am on the river fly-fishing but didn't feel like sitting in the boat getting soaked.

Anyway glad to hear you caught a few, I may be heading up on Friday afternoon and may have a spot in the boat, if you wanna tag along you are welcome to do so. Let me know via PM. Remo

Luvthemcuts,
From your post it sounds like you are trolling. If you are, stop!! This time of year the best way to fish that lake is not to troll. You had the right idea with tube jigs though. Fish in 5 to 30 ft of water. You can cast those jigs and jig them back real slowly or you can jig them vertically. Also, a great way to fish this time of year is a nightcrawler or frozen minnow suspended a couple feet below a bobber or throwing them out with no weight and letting them sink slowly. BTW- way to go out and brave the elements. Some of my best days have been in bad weather up there. Then again some of my best days up there have been blue bird sunny days with a glassy lake all day.

Make a trip to Fish Tech on 2300 east and ask for Dan, oh yes tell him bassrods sent you....He can show you what they are and give you pointers on how to use them...
Forget Sportsman they don't have anything there shelves are bare...

Another way is ask any of the people who post on here that use the lures to go fishing with them so they can show you where and how to use said lures...

Count me in !!! I wouldn't mind fishing with the guy who boated 40 last week..

You've got to show me how to do that shallow fishing. I tried the Renegade area last thursday and didn't get a bite. It was because I was trolling and not still fishing the shallows.

Anyway, shoot me an e-mail and we'll get out there on Friday.

How do you PM on this site anyway?

My e-mail is: luvthemcuts@customsoftwarezone.com.

Are you just using tube jigs in the shallows, or are you using something else that I should pickup?

Thanks..

The easiest way is to click on a member's name and then click on "Send Private Message".
