I was just wondering if anybody was catching any wipers at Willard after that snow storm over the weekend. If so, where are you fishing and with what.
I was out on Tuesday and trolled all over and tried lots of different lures and didn't have any luck.
Thanks for any help you may have.

[cool][#0000ff]Trolling for wipers is probably done for this year. When the temps drop below 60 they do not chase lures...very fast. We still get a few on slow plastics, worked just off the bottom.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Just because I am a masochist, I am planning to hit Willard from my tube again about Friday. In years past I have caught wipers on small tube jigs right up until HEAVY COLD.[/#0000ff]

I was over there last Friday on the North bank and I did not catch anything. I got one hit on a bacon tipped char Storm Shad but that is all. Bobber went under and then came back up. All in all it sucked.
I was trying my brand new out of the package Lucky Strike Chartreuse and on my second cast and the reel clipped back over on my throw and when my lure got no slack it did not like that and decided to keep going.
Out 17.00 and no fish. What a bummer.

I was on the lake yesterday (15th) and did realy well. We trolled the southwest corner in about 9-10 feet of water. We caught 10 very fat wipers, all but three on Lucky Craft pointers. We zig zagged pretty hard while we were trolling and caught everyone of our fish on the inside lures when they slowed down to about 1 to 1.5 mph. We missed 5 fish and had one break off right at the boat. If you catch him you will get a nice LC pointer. We graphed alot of fish on the north dike but no takers. The water temp was anywhere from 54-56 degrees. With the warming temp and if the wind stays down it may be a good time to hit Willard.
The one thing that really pisses me off though is that the fish cleaning station is already closed. In years past we have always caught wipers on Willard through October. For the park guys to close the fishing cleaning station right now seems very short sighted. What else do they have to do with their time????? No boaters, no campers, what do the do?????

Great report thanks for posting it Henries. Were you fishing in the morning or afternoon? I think the reason they close the fish cleaning station so early is because it would freeze the pipes that they use to flush the remains of the fish, if they left the water on. I knew we have been getting some hard freezes lately, just a thought. WH2

We caught all of our fish from about 1730 to 1900hrs. Not one bite before that or after that. With the weather warming up for the next few days I would guess the bite should only get better. I could be wrong but this shoud be the last blast for Willard until late spring.
