INSTEAD OF BUYING TREES WE SAVE THE SEEDS FROM THE STORE BOUGHT APPLES IN A SMALL BOX , THEN WE PLANT THEM THE NEXT YEAR WHILE ON OUR NATURE HIKES . GOOD OLD JONNY APPLESEED STARTED THAT TRADITION A COUPLE HUNDRED YEARS AGO . WE DO IT CAUSE ' IT ADDS TO THE FUN OF THE HIKES . YEARS FROM NOW MAYBE TRERE WILL BE STORIES AF LONEHUNTER APPLESEED TOO ! LOL!!
THOES STORE BOUGHT APPLES (ONCE THE GROW UP INTO BEING A TREE )PRODUCE BUNCHES MORE APPLES TOO !

remember when you plant your apple seeds that they need to be frozen before they will germinate.
in addition to this, the tree that grows will not be the same apple you bought and ate from the store. It will be some type of a throw back. the hybred you are used to is geneticly unstable because of its specialized breading in the labs.
what you can do is find a sapling comming up from the ground and splice your favorite apple to it. keep all branches from below the splice from sprouting and you can get a good apple tree.

I forgot to mention that the best time to plant apple seeds is in the fall, they do need to freeze in order to germinate. that is why apple trees do not do well in florids.
save you seeds and plant them on your bow hunt.
place the seeds 1/4 inch under the serface of the ground for best results. they should sprout in the spring.
you can make a bed in your garden 2 foot by 2 foot for the saplings. you let them grow till the following spring and dig them up before they start budding and set them out in the woods where you want them with a campers spade.
break the ground open "do not dig a hole" stick the shovel in the ground and push foreward pull the spade out lay the sapling in the crack and set the sapling to its original depth. To high or to low and the tree will die.
it is always best to plant saplings on a rainy day in the woods.
