Island Park Res. Report
#1
My son and I fished Island Park all day Saturday from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm with a 1.5 hour break to scout other ice and Harriman Nature Pond; by the way I wouldn't ice fish Harriman unless you know something I don't. I only fished it for fifteen minutes and it seems hopeless with all the moss and only 1.5 feet of water.

Well Island Park was typical, but I learned a lot in a full day of fishing. In all we caught seven fish most 15 to 19 inches. The 19 inch was a big "football" bow. We also caught the prettiest 5 inch bow I have ever seen; hey the small ones too can be personal bests! The bite was either light or sprint for your pole, and yes we lost one[frown] Best colors were green and pink paddle bugs, although most of my jigs at least got one hit. Although I fished in 20 feet of water the best action was in three to seven feet of water off the bottom, and you needed to tip toe or slide to not scare the bitting fish. Lost several at the hole, but my son and I worked as a team, he had the fun job of reeling and fighting the fish as a guided and captured the big guys coming out of the hole. Lost a few at the hole, but still had fun fighting them. Compared to Henry's the fish gave twice the fight; at least this is my comparison.

Ice was 3.5-4 inches, but the entire res. is not safe, and there is even some open water in some areas. I will say there was a very hot bite in a span of thirty minutes at a certain time of day, but I will save that for a pm if anyone wants it. Also if anyone knows how to fish for the elusive IP Kokonee I would love to hear from you in a pm. I really would like to ice a koke out of IP.

Hope everyone had a good weekend fishing!

Great Report. I should have checked Island Park. I checked the ice at Mud Lake, Roberts, and the Rexburg pond instead. I found they are all very close but not enough ice to safely walk on yet.
