Toon / Sonar ??
#1
I'm thinking very strong about geting my first Toon. The Outcast Discovery 10 ir.

[#000000]I want to trick it out with a nice color sonar, thats easy to use on a Toon. $ Price? Well $600 or less. Not to many bells, just want good color screen clairity, & easy to use on the toon. Easy set up, & take down. What holding brackets do I need? Do I want/need IGPS? (internal GPS)? On my Trophy boat I use the Lowrance LCX 19. But thats to big for a toon. So Guy's & Gal's jump in with some ideas to help me get it "Right" the first time. Let me hear, see what works for you. Or what I should stay away from![/#000000]

First off, why that particular boat? Check this chart out:
http://www.cabelas.com/comparison-chart-...oats.shtml
The North Fork Pontoons are in the same price, but, they are Urethane bladders, and they are wider with a bigger standing platform, not to mention a much longer warranty. Plus they are lighter. AND USA made not China.

Sonar with GPS is cool. You get onto fish, if the wind is blowing you can loose your position real easy. GPS can keep you on the fish. Or map out a good area.

Color is way cool also. I would like the color also. Here are some to look at:

As far as mounting, allot have used PVC. I use aluminum, so there will be allot of info on how to mount one.

Bait Caster ,I installed a Eagle Fisheasy 320C on my float tube and couldn't be happier with it. Granted it doesn't have the GPS, but if you decide against that option, the 320C is a great unit. You may already know that Eagle and Lowarance have emulators online so you can play with the finder to check out the features. Wish I could help you with installation, but a little playing with PVC should do the trick. ole Mike

[cool]Here is a link to a post I put up one time on how I set up a sonar on my tube. Same only slightly different, with different options using the frame for a pontoon.

Whenever you decide upon your sonar, you can bring it over and I can help you figure out the best options.

On the transducer, just remember the Transducer doesn't have to be real deep. My boat is set up with the Transducer about an inch off flat ground. But it is in the water about 2". I get a true depth reading that way.

Thanks TD for the visual.

Thank you Tube Dude, I used your method for installation from the earlier article. It works great!!!
I have sent others here to check out your method also.
I do use the front drink pocket for holding an electric box, but added a piece of 1X4 to tighten a bit.
I just love the Eagle 320C on my fat cat and looking to get another for my Fish Cat#4 for when friends go along.
The Eagle is "buy it now" on ebay for $150 free ship.
My experiance on the water in my float tube would be much less enjoyable without your helpfull tips Tube Dude!! Wish you and yours a Merry Christmas, as well as all others. Mike

First off...LICENSE. you will have to license it and her it runs around $27. a year. I don't agree with the law, but I think a motor is a must.

Deep Cycle Marine battery as they can take the recharge you will be giving them.

I have the Minn Kota Maxxum 40 and love it. Bigger than the Minn Kota 30 not only in horse power, but the shaft is longer. Not necessary however.
The Endura's have 5 forward and I think 3 reverse, where the Maxxum is more a reo-stat where the more you turn the faster it goes. The props are the same size so I don't think the Maxxum can go faster (not that that is an issue either) but it seems to last longer. I really like the idea that a slight turn holds you in place on breezy days.
Also, you will want to loosen the bolt under the Head of the motor and turn the head so it is facing the same direction as the prop. This allows you to just reach back and go. Pulling uses less energy, plus I think you want to go backwards and fish in front. If you troll it works out great. You will have full forward power, except you will be pulled. But you still have reverse to push you like into shore.
