Hyrum finally capped completely but I'd wait a week before running a sled across it especially through the middle of the lake where it capped last. People have been fishing the edges, along the dam, and back by the inlet but I've seen no ATVs or snowmobiles on the ice yet.

One highlight is that the gate to the swimming area is being left open and the road to the parking lot below has been getting plowed. In recent years, that gate has always been locked during the winter and you had to climb over the gate and hike down the hill. Just remember if you use that entrance and park below, you'll need to pay the entrance fee or use your state parks pass.

Hey, Mr. Pyrate! What's best to use up there? I have a daughter that lives just down the street and they wanna try some ice fishin'. Any specific spots? How much is the state park pass? Is it paid into a box on a pole and letting your conscience be your guide?[Image: bobwink.gif]

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the day fee is because I use an annual pass. I'd imagine it's $7-$9 per day. As far as letting your conscience be your guide, that's up to you but, myself, I've always found that the entrance fee is cheaper than the ticket and the entrance fee is what is enabling the park to keep the gate opened and the road plowed. I know I'd gladly pay $7 to drive down that hill with all my gear and not have to pull it all back up.

All the standard stuff works on Hyrum that you'd use for panfish and trout. Genz worms tipped with wax worms or meal worms have caught trout and, surprisingly enough, some pretty decent largemouth bass through the ice. So take a wide selection and keep changing until something works.

[:p] Fished Hyrum today from about 11AM until 2PM. Temp was -5 Degrees. Parked at the state park and walked up to where the junk cars are in the water on the shore.

The Ice is 4 inches of frozen slush and 1 inch or less of good ice. Would not recommend venturing far from shore or taking snowmobiles/ATVs on ice yet.

The fishing was poor. Only had a few tiny bites using ice flies and wax worms. Only one other person that I saw caught a fish (6 LB Brown). Only a handfull of people fishing Hyrum.

Hey, you betcha, I always pay the fee wherever. As with you, I would much rather cough up single digit $ than $$$!

With this colder weather, Hyrum should freeze up nicely and provide a mixed bag on whatever.

Thanks!

Nice fish, probably about 3 or 4 pounds though, not 6 like mentioned above.
