Yes, Symbiotics is back with another proposal for a pump storage energy project. There are a few major differences this time. [/font]

[ul][li][font "Times New Roman"]First, the target is not Hook Canyon; they have moved their sights over to North Eden Canyon. (see Map >)[/font][/li][li][font "Times New Roman"]Secondly, they are not "proposing" to use Bear Lake as one of the reservoirs. [/font][/li][li][font "Times New Roman"]Their proposal calls for two reservoirs to be built in North Eden Canyon and to use private irrigation water rights to fill the reservoirs. [/font][/li][li][font "Times New Roman"]Symbiotics wants to use a different FERC process this time that will allow them to do the studies first and then presumably have more hard data to present to the public toward the end of the process.[/font][/li][/ul]
[font "Times New Roman"]Although this project as currently proposed, would not directly use Bear Lake and its waters, it still has potential to impact the lake and the community. Many factors will have to be watched very carefully. The major ones will be water rights and aquifer impacts, geology and dam safety, water quality and connectivity to the lake, and fisheries. Also, I say "as proposed", because last time their initial proposal was a very small one. When they came out with their "PAD" it was dramatically changed. Again, we will watch!

Bear Lake Watch submitted a Motion to Intervene which was granted by FERC. PacifiCorp did the same. We will be made aware of all aspects of the actual FERC procedure. Bear Lake Watch will keep you informed as this goes forward. We are in the process of building a North Eden section on our website, which should be up Tuesday, January 6. Even with these proposed changes its still stinks of nothing but problems for the Bear lake Valley. I hope once again that it is shot down. Thanks for Keeping us posted on this Jeff.
