Deer Creek Walleyes 5-27-03
#1
Fished Deer Creek today caught 4 walleye and 4 smallmouth. Fished the north end in the shallower water. Started out fishing the points, casting sassy shads and white curly tails, then moved to the flats and trolled walking weights and floating jig heads with a crawler. Didn't move to the flats till about 12:30 or 1:00 wished I'd moved sooner. Caught all the walleye except 1 on the flats. Had to leave at 2:15 so I could make it back to town to pick wife up at work.

The smallmouth were between 12 and 16 in.[cool]

Thanks for the awesome report Poncho. How deep of water were you fishing in and did you get the smallmouth trolling also or casting? I can't wait until I can retire. Hope to see ya on the pond one day.

The smallmouth came from casting into the bank, they were off the bank a little ways, probably in about 10 feet. The walleye were in 6 to 10 feet. The trolling was done with my trolling motor since there was no wind for drifting. So it was 1mph or less. The walking weight was 3/8 of an ounce with a bearing swivel behind it. then I had about a 4 foot lead to the floting jig head, so the crawler was about a foot off the bottom.

[#ff0000]Hey Poncho, I just have one criticism, Where is your tape measure and BFT sticker/logo in all of these great pictures. Just trying to look out for you. As far as I can see you are a shoe in for the next contest if you could get those two things in your pics! Check out this thread. [/#ff0000]

I can read a tape measure Utah isn't the only state with slot limits I've fished all over the country and can watch out for myself.

I think neveronsunday means you should enter the BFT 16 species contest and win a custom rod. You cetainly are catching several species. I don't think he was implying anything other than that. You have to have a BFT logo and a tape measure in the pic for it to be eligible. Good Luck!

Poncho, were you the guy in the red boat up by the north end ? I was up there in the green bass boat by thre railroad tracks or over by the island. I got 2 eyes and a smallie in the first 20 mins then sunburned after that. Btw, I BFT stickers on my truck shell and windscreen on my boat.

[#ff0000]Whoa Poncho, Easy does it. Nothing else implied. (You were almost acting guilty there for a minute.) I just thought you should take that grand prize home as long as you were posting those great pics. I took the liberty of cut and pasting some of the rules here. The whole contest can be found at this link. Check it out.[/#ff0000]

I was on the north end in a red and white crestliner. I didn't get sunburned thanks to sunscreen but I felt like I was in an oven.
