I'm wondering what the road to Currant Creek is like. Is it plowed? Icy? Could I make it in a two-wheel drive van?

I've been to Current Creek every summer. The last two years fishing there were horrible. Usually we catch around 10 fish a person at least per day. But for the last two years we have only caught a couple total. But i've never ice fished it and always wondered how it would be. But I guess it could be different ice fishing. I'm not saying it will be horrible. But I just want to know what happened to all the fish. I see that they planted tiger trout, and i hope that that all goes good. But i think they should plant more cutthroats if thats what they usually do. But has anyone else noticed there arent as many fish as there use to be?

Here is my report from 1/10
warning pic is large

Hi all,

Loaded up my son this morning and headed to Currant Creek. Arrived about 8:30. Got down to the ice without dumping the sled and got some holes drilled in about 45 feet of water just out from the dam. Started marking fish every 10-15 minutes. No specific depth, all through the column. Caught a few, but not real fast.
After a couple of hours the fish just stopped coming through, so we hiked out to the cove on the east side. Set up in 10 feet of water and caught some more. I ended the day with nine, my son with four. Guess he has lost his touch. Love it when I can out fish him!

Weather : AM chilly with a little wind, PM nice
Ice : 10 inches solid, slush minimal
Bait: glow jighead tipped with mealworm or crawler
Road: plowed and in good shape
Fish: two 6" tigers, the rest were colorful cuts 12-16"
Crowd: about six other groups

Great day on the ice!

I've been up to Currant Creek on new years and MLK day . The road was not a problem at all. The fishing was good on new years but quite slow on MLK day. The weather on MLK day was great and made up for the slow fishing. The bad part was coming back into town and seeing how bad the air was.

Thanks for this information! Just to make sure, was the road "no problem" for a jeep (I notice your name is JeepNut) or for a regular two-wheel drive vehicle? Is it plowed all the way around to the campground area or just to the dam?

thanks for all the info. sounds like there is no magic spot this year. at least a day on the hard stuff beats a hard days work. normally the road is only plowed to the damn, with room for parking. its nice to get up there and away from the crowds. so thank again i cant wait to get out. no matter how slow the bite is

Until it snows the road doesn't require four wheel drive. I tried to go up there in December before they plowed it and the snow was deep and I did have to use the Jeep's four wheel drive. However on that trip I was stopped by a snow slide about 5 feet deep that covered the road. The road is plowed to the dam but not beyond that.
