Roberts Report
#1
I headed out to Roberts this afternoon with the little one for some easy fish. Spent about 1 1/2 hours there until dark. Caught a couple dozen perch and a couple other guys that had been there a while caught probably 3x the number of fish. Only caught 1 trout. Was using a 1/8 oz kastmaster and a green jig tipped with mealies or perch meat.

Also the guys there before me said they had spoken with a F&G biologist that had told them to just not throw the fish back d/t the excessive numbers. Have any of you heard anything about that stance?

We were there a couple weeks ago and caught a bucketful. Why doesn't F&G dump in a dozen tiger muskie or something else with big teeth to thin them down?

Sounds good to me...I haven't herd of anybody really catching anything perch. Be nice if they would at least stock it up some rainbows and throw a few banana trout in while they're at it.

There are Banana Trout in Roberts. We hooked a few last year. You have to keep your hook away from the Perch to catch them, which isn't easy. We actually laid over our holes inside our fish tent and watched the fish at the bottom. It's like looking into an aquarium. You can pick out the bigger Perch that way, if there are any. We never saw any big ones in Roberts. Still kind of fun though.

You think that ice is thick enough to hold a real man Davey? Maybe I could hire out as a load tester[Wink].
Welcome aboard!

Hi Zangy Wang, I can't think of a better ice tester than you, but you would have to work cheap. You could sing as you go. I just finished posting a note to you and then I see this post from you. We definately need to get on the ice somewhere together. Think about it. - ZINGY WING out.

It's too hard to hit that little hole with your dry fly. Frustrating. Very frustrating. Almost as frustrating as not catching any fish. I wouldn't mind giving the ice another chance to kill or cripple me. We could recruit a couple of big guys to go along and help me up, or out , as the case may be. I don't have any gear any more, but given a little advance notice I could rig something, and maybe even aquire some ice cleats. Lemme know when. Zung (how soon we forget.)
