Miserable day at Pineview
#1
Frozenover and I hit Pineview this morning. When we arrived, it was raining pretty hard. We sat in the truck and debated about going out for a bit and decided that if it got too bad we could return to the truck.

So, we unloaded the snowmobiles and the all of the gear and headed out. We wanted to run across the lake, but decided with the amount of standing water on the lake, we would just try on the north side of Cemetery Point.

In places the standing water was at least 5" deep.

We worked our way around and moved quite a ways from everyone else. In our journey, James caught a rock that was hidden under the snow with his icehut. It broke the hitch off of the front of the sled.

We rerigged the hitch and headed out on the ice. When we stopped and uncovered the sled, we found that when the rock was hit, somehow it bent the shaft on his auger.
Of course, I didn't bring mine or a hand auger.
So there we were without a way to drill any holes.

We loaded the gear back up and headed for the groups on the ice. We stopped at the first tent and asked them if they wouldn't mind drilling a couple of holes for us.

They did better than that. They allowed us to take their auger about a 100 yards away from them to a spot that they had caught fish at yesterday.

I drilled 6 holes and took the auger back. The two of them had tried to make it to the ice in a side by side UTV and got it stuck. So I headed over to help them get their rig out. By the time I got there, someone have hooked a truck up to it and pulled them out. I did give one of them a ride back out on the ice.

We started fishing around 9:30 and left at about 4:30.

We caught about 15 perch each, very small compared the Yuba perch we caught a couple of weeks ago.

It rained all day long, neither one of us had rain gear and we were soaking wet in a very short time.

We did witness the strangest thing while sitting in the hut and while the rain was pouring down. Usually we will see water come up out of the holes, but this time all of a sudden the water started running into the hut. The water was about 2" deep. The water was running into the holes with such force and it created an eddy. It would suck the meal worms that had fallen on the ice right down the hole.
I had a small perch on the ice and the water pushed it right back down the hole. I was lucky enough to grab the ice skimmer and fish it back out before it swam off.

This continued for a hour or so and then quit. The water running in the holes actually cut the ice around the holes.

I think we are finished with Pineview until we get some snow and much colder temps.

My Granddaughter Alexis wanted to touch each of the fish while I filleted them.

what brand auger does your buddy have. A friend of mine bent the shaft on his auger but was able to buy just the auger and new blade the mounted up to his powerhead for a lot less than buying a new one.

His auger is an Eskimo.

He found the shaft online ranging from $94 to $129.

If someone out there has one that has a bad motor, he might be interested in a deal.

We were wondering if they were pulling water out of the dam at that time and if that action could have caused the water be pulled into the holes like that.
The ice slopes down from the shore. I think water is being pulled out faster than it is coming in.
