Is there ice to Buckboard?

Just checked for any recent info on ice conditions at the Gorge and couldn't find much. I'm planning a trip for Jan 30 and want to to know if there was any safe ice as far as Buckboard? Is the ice still good down FS Road 11? Also the guy I'm going with was wondering how close to the ice you can get at the end of road 11. He has heavy sled issues. Thanks for any input.

We fished Lost Dog via road 11 on Friday and Saturday. Ice was thick, at least 12 inches. Easy access onto the ice with no open water around the shore. We only iced one burbot, but lost a dozen either at the hole or during the bite. The weather was really warm. During the day, the top of the ice had some standing water, but it froze at night.


Not sure about Buckboard. It only looked patchy as I drove by. I was surprised to see such little ice.

Fishnate is actually the one heading up there on Friday. I am a Realtor, I have to work some weekends you know! My wife has been pretty kind, she has let me go to the Gorge 8 of the last nine weekends.

My suggestions....try to hit Buckboard. If there is ample ice, you have a better chance at striking some burbot. We have iced over 300 burbot at Lost Dog and the catch rate just keeps slowing. There is heavy pressure from many different anglers at Lost Dog. The ice is realitively fresh at Buckboard which means the burbot haven't been harrassed (or eliminated) like those at Lost Dog.

Bait: I have had more strikes from my blue Radical Glow tube, than any other in my fleet. I won a Radical Glow basket at the Burbot Bash. The blue is a winner. It glows super bright and for some reason the burbot love it. Even though we iced only one last trip it came from the blue tube.
