portable ice shelters?
#1
Just looking for some honest info regarding the 2 men portable hub type shelters. I have a Eskimo quite flip-3 bench type. Great if your fishing with 3 people, but tough to handle and load when I go out by myself. i'm looking at the Eastman Ice Cube 2, the Eskimo quik fish-2 and the Clam. just would like your thoughts, plus and minuses from you guys.
Thanks for any help.

oh! by the way was down to OC yesterday, awesome weather, and good fishin..

We have the Eskimo QF-2 and really like it...quick to setup and take down...I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for a one-person adventure...use the ice screws to secure the corners than pop it open...same with taking it down leave the ice screws in when pushing in the sides and top...works great IMHO...[Wink] [Wink]

I Have a QuickFlip III also and I love it, except is is so heavy. We just bought 3 of the quick fish 6 and used them the last 2 weekends an love them. They have all sorts of room and are less than half the weight of the QFlip III. They also set up faster and take down is very easy. We also had a Ice cube 4 and sold it because there was not enough room. I take a lot of stuff.

I bought the Eskimo Quick Flip 2 this year I really like it
easy to set up I have not had to tie it down yet I but I
have been lucky on the days I have fished the wind has not
blown.I do not have any negative comments about it.
My friend bought a Hi- Tech and he stated he
wished he would have bought a Eskimo or a Frabil.
My 2 cents.

I wouldn't recomend the quick fish 2. It is to small and not very tall. I like my quick fish 3 and take it out all the time by myself. For a little more mony why not ?

I just bought this year a Killzone Igloo and I really like it. Quick to set up and pack out. Weighs about 18lbs. I also have a Frabill bench type. I agree with you on packing it out. Almost need a snow mobile or four wheeler. That's why I bought the new one. Not getting any younger. [pirate]

I have had my QF2 for three years and love it . The only weak spot is the bottom . I have worn holes in the bottom on both ends . I wish I would have done this when it was new . Curt G.

The skis are my wifes old cross country skies . I put them on first , and then I thought if I drag them over dry ground it would ruin then . Someone on this forum had the same concerns and bolted HMW Plastic on to protect the skis and it works great . This is the web site where I bought the Plastic . It comes in 5' lenths . www.usplastic.com You can get enough for about $40.00 total . Material , shipping and Handling . Curt G.

[#800000]I just sold my QuickFlip2 and bought a QuickFish3 from Sportsmans for $189. Lots of room for two people and I can stand up and not touch the top. Easy up AND down. I'm very happy with the change.[/#800000]

Thanks a bunch for all the input. Sounds like the Q-fish3 has a lot going for it. I've looked on the web and all local stores (N. of Sanpete) and seems ain't a one around. There are a few 2's though, I'm not all that tall so maybe that's the way to go?
Thanks again guys

I have the quickfish2 - i like it...

pros - cheap, it is light enough to pack, easy to set up and tear down in wind by yourself, small and easy to heat...

con - it is small no standing.... if you tear down with the door open you are in for a long day....

If you see me at Yuba before open water, come on over, you can set er up....

I ordered a CLAM Basecamp from a company called (redrock?) out of Minnesota. It does have a bit thicker cloth than the the eskimo or icecube. It cost about $20 more than the previous brands. I give it five stars.
