maybe im the idiot here maybe not, but why does the proclamation say that at yuba perch limit it ten. But between january 30th and march 1st all perch must be kept. So i called the dwr on it and asked them. If I caught my limit of perch and wanted to try and catch some pike or walleye and i ended up catching another perch what would i do. could i get in trouble for taking more then my limit ? It says in the proclamation that i have to keep all the perch between a certain time frame but if its over my limit what would I do. The dwr office told me i would have to stop fishing as soon as i get my ten perch. I guess I don't understand why. if I want to fish then I can right. maybe someone can help me better understand there thinking. I know why they want me too keep them in the winter I just don't know why they can tell u that u have to stop fishing. what the hell

[shocked] Its pretty simple its called laws an regulations.. If you bagged your 10 perch an than you decided to fish for walleye or pike an than you so happened to catch another perch that lost its bladder than what ??? Perch an many other fish will lose their bladder when caught at 30 ft or more read the proc..You gonna force it down the hole with hopes it will survive ???[crazy] Follow the laws an life as a fisherman will be alot better for you..

Try for the pike or walleye before you've got your ten perch. It's illegal to release perch because most, if not all, will die when caught during the cold water period. If you were to catch and release 60 or 70 perch while trying to catch one walleye, you would've killed 60 or 70 perch. That's kinda hard on the resource.

I have fished yuba in the past when it did not freeze and there were boats out there with dozens of floating perch al around them thats why they made that law.

if it were me and i just had to keep on fishing i would build a fire and cook'm'up then stop settin the hook on the small fish strikes. this way you can stay and try to catch your walleye. Im sure leaving early would be too much to handle if I was far from home.

Evidently you have never got into the big ones at C.J. Strike. I have fished Yuba in the good years as well as Deer Creek and the ones you guys are catching now are nothing like the real toads that we use to catch in those waters.[fishin]

As far as I remember if you eat a fish on the lake it doesnt count as part of your daily bag limit. see now that fish is not even in existence. Its a part of you. I might not be accurate on the subject of perch regs, maybe things have changed someone set me strait if im wrong but it was just an idea. definitely dont want anybody to get a ticket though.

FOD how does that even seem logical in your mind? So what is stopping anyone from cooking all their fish as they catch them? What would be the point of a bag limit then? I could go out on the ice, fire up a camp stove and just keep cooking and eating perch all day long, disregarding any and all bag laws.
Because the fish is 'part of you'? What? The fish used to be part of the lake population, and you harvested it (SEE BAG LIMIT), simply because you eat it doesnt mean that fish doesnt exist. Use your nogin man.

Simple enough. Page 33 of the Fishing Guide Book 08. I don't have a 09 right here in front of me sorry so the page may be different in the 09 book. Just read the bag and posession limits. You may eat the fish today but can't catch one to replace it until the next day.

This peaked my curiosity always wanted to take a small BBQ and grill some fish while im fishing read through the proc but it kinda confusing. One section states:
"While you are in the act of fishing, it is unlawful to possess fish that have been dressed or filleted. This does not apply to fish that are processed for immediate consumption or to fish held from a previous day’s catch." ( pg13 )
Does this mean we can fillet them if were going to eat them right away ???
Can we keep fishing if were grilling or do we have to stop fishing ? And as mention earlier if were eating them im sure the law still apllies to limits but were eating the evidence LOL
