Deer Creek
#1
I was wondering how the fishing is going on deer creek. I am going up on sat. Is there water around the edges yet, how thick is the ice? I want to hit the island about 300 yrds or so out from it.

I went out by the Island on Sunday. It was pretty slow, caught one off the bat but nothing else for the rest of the evening. I think that I got their too late and the fishing had slowed down. I saw a lot of people though maybe someone else has a better report I fished all around the island at about 30' of water, lots of old holes watch out. The edges were very poor. We got lucky and some nice angler had a plank out, hopefully it is still their. good luck

I was there Sunday to edges were bad around the island. I went to the far shore (thanks sewfish) the fishing was much better on the far side. I got there @ noon and left @ 5 Landed 2 rainbows and lost 2 more @ the hole. The other fish I got on my line bent the crap out of my hook, something big Carp, Walleye, or brown im not sure never saw it. I was using a pink ratso with a waxie all fish I caught we dead sticked @ 17 ft in 36 ft of water

we have been to deer creek a couple of times in the last week and the secret is to get away from all the holes by the island. we walked across the lake and a little to the north and had action from noon until we left about 3:00. It's about a half hour walk but well worth it. we caught over 40 fish between three of us. We used worms and waxies on several small jigs. we were dead sticking it for the most part.

the ice is a good 8" thick. the only place you have to be careful is getting on the lake. Saturday there was a little water on top of the ice. just stay on a good path, one that is walked on a lot, it will be frozen under the water.
