[#000000]More than 100 California sea lions have jaunted upriver for a few days of salmon fishing in Oregon's Columbia River, according to a preliminary count. Officials say that's triple the number spotted last year, raising concerns about the potential threat to endangered stocks of salmon and steelhead trout. [/#000000]

[#000000]Officials say they've observed sea lions eating 1,446 salmon this year, compared with an observed catch of 452 fish last year. The total estimated kill takes into account hours when sea lions went unobserved. [/#000000]

[#000000]The sea lions, however, haven't caused enough of a problem to trigger action by fish and wildlife authorities. Officials say the sea lions' share of upriver chinooks remains a fraction of the number caught by anglers.[/#000000]
