I was thinking about hitting the Island tommarro or maybe the far side. Anybody have any info on the ice???? I know the edges are going to be bad, so I'll bring a plank.

I havent seen it in a few days but with temps here in Orem in the low 60s this week, you couldnt pay me enough to ice fish there right now. Let us know if you go though. Good luck.

We drove by Deer Creek yesterday on our way to try Utah Lake (after first fishing Currant Creek and then Strawberry) and the ice does not look safe.

Called and asked the ranger at the Deer Creek state park. They said that they had an angler go out there on the ice, when he cut a hole w/ the auger it went right through pretty quick, so he got off the ice because it wasn't safe. So, it sounds like there is about 4-5 inches of ice.. but its ROTTEN

Ended up going to Deer creek today 11:00 to 3:00. The Ice was safe enough. 5 inches of clear with 3 in of white ice on top. The edges were open from 3 to 4 feet out. Plank is very necessary. There were 3 other singles and a group that were fishing the ice by the island. The fishing not so good. I was @ the same place I was two weeks ago were I killed um. Today 1 14 in rainbow in 4 hours. =(. A female fish cop came out and busted one of the guys from the group. It was a riot watching her in her uniform no coat slipping and sliding on the ice. The ice was real slick 0 snow on top.

I was up at DC around the island earlier this week, Monday and Tuesday.
Monday arrived at 5pm fished till 7 with not even a strike water temp 34 fished in mostly 45 feet all across lake at that point, found one drop went to 60 think it was river bed in middle of lake about. moved alot from 20 feet off the edge of ice from island to all the way across the lake to the tree standing on the hill directly across from the island. slush monster was out!! I hit mostly old holes but augered my share (8) by hand. was tired enough I dodged work on tuesday also.
Tuesday arrived at DC at about 2:30pm. fished till 6 water temps today one degree warmer 35 got a few 36 in some holes, concentrated more this time on Island area, water on top of ice and MANY cracks in surface of ice about half a finger wide but sealed they were only on top. Slush monster not as bad but lots of slick ice on top, figure the water gushed up over top of ice just enough to refreeze the slush. fished off first point on marina side of island in the "bay opening" to the south of island. drilled 3 holes and checked 2 others. nothing. walked to front of island checked holes within 10 yard of land, one had several blips on the finder, dropped jig. all i was using was gulp maggot in pink and or green. nothing in 20 minutes, drilled 2 more of my own holes, still tight in the arms and shoulders from last night, then began seeking old holes. today was easy it appeared anything drilled inthe last week was not capped anymore...plenty of holes to choose from maybe hit a dozen or more before I settled in at 3. no fish landed, had 4 strikes today that came only when bait would sit on bottom for 5 minutes then reel up half way FAST and stop, drop rod tip 6 inches munch happend on the fall. could not hook any of them. ALL blips i saw on finder of fish were at 13 to 21 feet deep. no takers. i figured with water warming a bit they may wake a little more....
in summary, no fish caught, but good times playing with my finder and figuring it out and i really enjoyed being up there. good weather no "W" only a slight breeze at one point for a half hour.
OH YEAH I WAS DRILLING A SOLID 8 TO 10 INCHES OF ICE WITH 4 INCHES OF WHITE JUNK ON TOP!!! THE PIPE MY DUCER IS ON WAS HALF IN THE WATER, DONT KNOW HOW LONG IT IS, BUT IT IS AT LEAST 36" LONG I USE IT OFF MY BOAT TOO. SO I RUBBED TILL I FELT THE BOTTOM OF ICE AND IT WAS HALF WAY DOWN.
